Christmas Day, 1955

On Christmas Day sixty years ago, Bette Midler was 10 years old. Odd that she doesn’t remember the record warmth in the US, or the record flooding in California that day.

Give her a break, she’s just not all that bright…

Bette Midler cut down more than 230 trees around one of her properties on the island of Kauai without a permit, and the state has recommended she be fined.

The staff of the Board of Land and Natural Resources recommended $6,500 in fines for having the trees felled and for building a graded road without permits required for the land zoned for conservation use.

Why on Earth would anyone think that Hawaii would have something called “building permits”, and ecological protections for conservation zones? OK, on top of not being very bright, maybe I should have mentioned she is also a hypocrite. I mean if she was intelligent, then we would have to assume she is a liar.

Interesting that the 1955 episode appeared to affect a wide swath of the US rather than being confined to the East and South as with this year’s warmth.

BTW Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all!

We’ve got some really sick people….that have too much to say

Half this country is having a glorious Christmas, kids can go out and play with their toys, you can drive to visit friends and family…
…trees are not down, power is not out, 911 is not ringing off the wall

..and of course, some pathetic sicko’s have something negative to say about it

Merry Christmas! I knew I could get a quick “data-fix” here to raise my spirits.

That 1955 flood on Christmas Day 60 years ago was the real deal. My wife’s family evacuated from Yuba City California and my father in law went to work on the levees and was rescued by helicopter. Several men working on the levees died.

Ten feet of water in their house. Heavy early snow followed by a pineapple express atmospheric river. OMG, our climate today is sooo crazy (wink).

Watched newsreels of it last night…

Well, here’s another Christmas day, the one from 1939, when naval warfare made weather in winter of 1939/1940: http://www.ocean-climate-law.com/12/arch/14.html.

A friend’s father went sailing out of the Port of Milwaukee harbor that day. He had procrastinated on pulling his boat out and was quite pleased that he had taken his time that year.
