    Arf! Arf! I wish I were a doberman and could bite a few of the 97% where it might impress them. Appealing to actual evidence, even reason and common sense doesn’t touch them.
    Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all of you who give me hope for humanity. Maybe this will be the year that the aforesaid common sense and reason prevail.

    The whole eco-scare has helped me understand human history to a greater extent.
    —as in the belief in witchcraft, eugenics and more.

    Eventually there will be several long term outcomes, at least one good, but before that some painful bad.

    The good, because the AGW nonsense has been so pervasive, eventually humanity will receive a huge lesson on how not to do science, and with it a dose of in your face media nonsense.

    The bad,—– 1) legitimate members of the science community will not be trusted.
    2) Many foolish, irresponsible, and painful for humanity actions will occur.
    3) Legitimate energy needs will not be met.
    A) Despite how otherwise convinced some people are, fossil fuels are simply solar energy stores, that energy being stored over a long, long time. However, the stored energy is finite and I feel we have already picked the lowest fossil fuel fruit in a mere century.
    B) At the same time, so called renewable energy is quantifiable, and inadequate. The answer lies in nuclear energy. Gail and I agree that eventually, when the heart and soul of the science world wakes up, nuclear energy will be used to produce fossil like fuels. Not easy, but the chemistry is not that difficult. The mechanics will be more difficult.
    4) Environmentalists are barking up the wrong tree. The greatest problem is that regarding water, locally, regionally and world wide. The problem is what we are putting into it (in some cases) and how we are using it.
    I have read four different studies (If requested, I will post one or two) regarding the depletion and now aquifers in some cases are showing increases of salt (sea) water. Writing from memory, a very thorough study regarding sea level rise, concludes that from the two conventionally stated causes (thermal expansion, and glacial melt) tide gauges should be showing a rise of only1.1 mm yr- . (Again, a very thorough analysis)
    The gauges, however, show about 1.7 to 1.8 mm/yr rise. A small amount of the additional rise may be due to land sinking because of material being removed. However, the larger amount, it appears, is due to groundwater being used and eventually run off into the oceans.
    Very foolishly, all the water problems are being blamed upon climate change.
    Pathetic!

      So it looks like the Russians Abiotic Oil/Hydrocarbons may have a bit more support.

      However nuclear still makes the most sense. We have the technology and we really do need to build those desal plants along the coast where the big cities are especially on the west coast and near Texas.

      To waste the advantage coal has given us to boot strap to nuclear and then fusion is a real crime.

        NASA’s report of organics in the outer part of the solar system (Titan) does not necessarily support the Russians concept of “Abiotic Oil” in planet Earth.

        The outer part of the solar system consists mostly of light weight elements (H, He, C, and N) from the outer layers of the supernova that birthed the solar system five billion years (5 Ga) ago.

        The inner planets accreted in layers, beginning with the formation of iron cores out of iron-rich elements (Fe,Ni) near the supernova’s pulsar core. See: “The noble gas record of the terrestrial planets,” Geochemical Journal 15, 247-267 (1981)
