Somehow, the world has been sold the idea that left and right are defined by who they hate, and who they mobilize. If they hate someone or praise someone because of their color, race, religion, or tennis club then they are far right, and if they hate someone because of how much wealth that person has accumulated, then they are far left. They fail to consider common factors like authoritarianism, collectivism, police state, lack of individual freedoms, controlled commerce and managed economies and wealth distribution, etc. These are all common factors of fascists and communists, yet our sociology professors try to tell us that they are at opposite extremes.
