I saw you played soccer at ASU. I too played soccer in the late 60’s at UCSB. I was a fullback and was used mainly as a hatchet-man since I was bulky and not that fast. I got away with it because outside the pitch, no one knew the rules.
That said, watching soccer, even at the highest levels is, to me, the greatest bore in the sports world. Sorry, but I gotta say it. Well, its not as bad as televised golf or 12 0-0 innings of the Cubs versus the Indians, but just sayin’…

I watched Honduras – Ecuador. I was amazed at the intensity of play. During the half, I checked the standings. For both teams, it was win or go home. I’m not a huge soccer fan, but seeing anything done at the highest level is worth watching.
At least there isn’t 50 commercials in 30 minutes of play like the NFL. Unless you pre-record an NFL game and fast forward thru all the dead time, it has now become unwatchable.

As for two views per person, you are also right; it’s the only thing on. I was in Central Africa when the World Cup was broadcast on one of the first color TV networks in the area. The TV was in a private restaurant (actually a chop bar). Because there was no African team playing, the TV was just on. I guess that counts as a watch for the twenty or more people there.
Big soccer (football) fan, but tired of the ridiculous fake faces when being ‘touched’ by an opponent. Its embarrassing to watch and pathetic. For years I wondered why it simply would not catch on in this country, its pretty obvious now. Americans don’t like pussies in sports. Thats what all the fucking ballerinas are; humongous pussies.
