I LIVE HERE IN SANDY SPRINGS, GA AND WE ARE NOT KNOW FOR OUR EXTREME COLD, UNLIKE THE FOLKS IN ALASKA OR NORTH DAKOTA, BUT I CAN TELL YOU ONE THING, I WISH I HAD SOME GLOBAL WARMING HERE. TODAY, WE HAVE A COLD, DAMP DRIZZLE OF A RAIN AND IT MAKE THINGS FEEL THAT MUCH WORSE. DARK AND GLOOMY TODAY AS WELL. TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN GOING UP AND DOWN, EVER SINCE THE WORLD WAS CREATED. IF THERE ARE ANY DRASTIC CHANGES IN THE EARTH, YES IT IS DUE TO HUMAN BEINGS, BUT NOT HUMAN BEINGS LIVING NATURALLY; IT IS CRIMINALLY DUE TO DARPA. BELIEVE ME WE DO NOT NEED TO COLONIZE OTHER PLANETS, AND BRING MORE DICTATORS THERE, AND BESIDES YAHVEH(G0D) IS GOING TO SEND JESUS CHRIST, AND WE SHALL NEVER BE ALLOWED TO CRIMINALIZE HIS HOLY UNIVERSE. THAT IS ALL WE NEED IS OBAMA ON ANOTHER PLANET ALONG WITH THE REST OF THEM. WE ARE NOT THANKFUL THAT WE WERE GIVEN THIS PLANET IN THE FIRST PLACE, SO HOW CAN WE BE THANKFUL FOR ANYTHING ELSE GIVEN???

Hatt is spot on. Without global warming it would be 9 F in La Crosse.

He means “global warming (denial) is a threat to my financial security…”

  4. theyouk says:

Ah. Given that Hatt’s a Cubs fan, it may be safe to assume he’s originally from Chicago. (I’m looking for ways to distance him from the state of my upbringing, Wisconsin).

As I understand it, the people of the middle east are terrific ice fighters and don’t like the heat. So, it is a national security issue if the temperature gets above freezing. I bet few people knew all this. Thanks to Mr. Hatt for giving us a clue.

I’m sure a connection to the Paris killings will be made. Something about duck liver warming sparking violence.

flicking through “ice age now” it feels like the whole world is frozen up .

Amazing isn’t it. Record cold and snow in Japan, Vietnam, Africa the Middle East The USA, and Canada.
People 12 people die in Mexico due to cold -14C (6.8F). People dying In the Middle East and even in Japan from the snow and idiots are still bleating about Gore Bull Warbling.

Given the EPA’s efforts to shut down coal plants; several nuclear plants coming off line; along with the NIMBY response to pipelines and fracking; this headline does not leave warm fussies.

Virginia power customers use record amount of electricity during cold snap

“Dominion Virginia Power on Wednesday met a record winter peak demand for electricity from its 2.4 million customers while cold arctic air blasted the region,” says 13newsnow.com

“Dominion supplied a peak 19,870 megawatts of electricity around 8 a.m. Wednesday. That is an increase of 85 megawatts over the previous winter peak demand record of 19,785 megawatts, set on January 30, 2014.”

So… record usage in January 2014, and now again in January 2015. Where’s all that global warming?

14 US Nuclear Plants Closing or at Risk

U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Closures Impede Climate Goals, According To Research Group

…In 2012, nuclear supplied nearly 20 percent of the nation’s electricity and more than 60 percent of zero-emissions electricity, more than four times the amount generated by wind and solar combined….

The EPA is considering new rules to force coal plants to cut carbon emissions and that would increase incentives for zero-carbon generation like nuclear. The nuclear industry’s decline is outpacing the growth of zero-carbon sources, the report said.

About 4 percent of nuclear capacity retired last year and more closures are expected this year.

Don’t you all know that La Crosse Wi is the headquarters of Trane (the air conditioning people)? Trane is owned by Ingersol Rand. IR is part of the Dow Jones sustainability index, which is meaningless to investors without media alarm like this.
And the global warming national security crisis can be solved by IR’s sustainability commitments, and more specifically by massive Trane AC deployments by DoD and Homeland Security. Don’t you understand? Trane could AC the world if you just gave them enough money in Paris 2015. About $100 billion per year, the Green Climate fund proposal, would do nicely. Although Trane might start with Obummer’s initial $3 billion commitment for which he lacked congressional authority.
    Warming problem solved. Brilliant.
You all will have to figure what parts of the above are pure sarc.

Time and place: Fort Lewis, WA, December 2003. I was given a few minutes out of a busy 90-day training cycle for mobilized National Guard soldiers from Northern Nevada. “Bring your cold weather gear when you go to Iraq.”
The Department of Defense had declared Anthropogenic Global Warming to be a National Security issue in a 2003 paper. Guardsmen in the audience objected that the Middle East was desert.
I had spent five years in Kuwait and two years in Saudi providing anti-terrorism security services. Northern Nevada–a desert environment–was experiencing wintery weather, lots of snow combined with low temperatures. CNN news footage showed shivering soldiers wearing poncho liners in an effort to keep warm while waiting in chow lines during December 2003/January 2004 And we were going to be living under canvas for a year and working outdoors mostly.
My unit brought all of its cold weather gear even though we were going to a desert that had hot temperatures (during the spring and summer and autumn) because those winter nights were COLD. We had no frostbite cases, no hyperthermia hospitalizations. Not all units deployed could claim that. And that was when Global Warming used to be hot!

Also, the cloud cover of the planet today is quite astonishing. Lots of sunlight being reflected back into space except around India, Hawaii and half of Australia.

The cloud cover around Antarctica is huge and it is near 24 hr a day sun right now there so much of that is being reflected back into space.

Yes, the National Geographic is 100% ‘we are roasting to death’ in nearly every possible story these days. Nearly unreadable. The photos are nice but of course, they concentrate now on hot places, not cold.

  13. The Sane One says:

Why is it impossible for Climate Change Deniers to see the forest past the trees? “It’s really cold outside so Global Warming is a scam!” Is it because of the way the world is today, demanding instant gratification, that leaves a large part of our society so short sighted? Global warming is a very slow and gradual process. It isn’t measured season to season but rather year by year or even decade by decade. (http://climate.nasa.gov/news/1029/) The FACT is that the planet has been warming, overtime, since the early 1900’s. Also, the world is a big place. We cant look outside and think since we, here in the US, didn’t break record high temperatures this year that everything is fine because other parts of the world, i.e. Australia, are breaking new records. The threat we face is real and although it may seem small (after all whats a couple of degree’s!), the consequences it will have on a complicated and intricate system that is our climate will be detrimental and irreversible.

    • Why is it impossible for climate alarmists to do any actual reading before making stupid comments?

    • Gail Combs says:

      WHAT threat of warming?
      http://jonova.s3.amazonaws.com/graphs/lappi/65_Myr_Climate_Change_Rev.jpg

The earth is at the end of the Holocene. About 200 years past the half precession point and solar insolation has dropped ~10% from the Holocene optimum and is MUCH closer to the solar insolation during the depths of the Wisconsin Ice Age.
From NOAA (note it is June insolation minimum at 60°N not June 22 insolation minimum at 65°N )
      (www1DOT)ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/paleo/climate_forcing/orbital_variations/berger_insolation/insol91.jun

      Holocene peak insolation: 522.5 Wm-2
      ………………………………………………………..decrease = 46.5 Wm-2
NOW (modern Warm Period) 476 Wm-2
      ……………………………………………………….. decrease = 13 Wm-2
Depth of the last ice age – around 463 Wm?2

The Earth today is 13 Wm-2 different that the depths of the last ice age.

Any hope that the Holocene would go long was shot down by Lisiecki and Raymo in 2005 in their rebuttal of Loutre and Berger, 2003. No more recent papers has rebutted Lisiecki and Raymo in the decade since then. Not that the MSM would bother telling us that.

      ABSTRACT
We present a 5.3-Myr stack (the ‘‘LR04’’ stack) of benthic d18O records from 57 globally distributed sites aligned by an automated graphic correlation algorithm. This is the first benthic d18O stack composed of more than three records to extend beyond 850 ka,…

consequently, stage 11 is unlikely to be artificially stretched. However, the 21 June insolation minimum at 65°N during MIS 11 is only 489 W/m2, much less pronounced than the present minimum of 474 W/m2. In addition, current insolation values are not predicted to return to the high values of late MIS 11 for another 65 kyr. We propose that this effectively precludes a ‘‘double precession cycle’’ interglacial [e.g., Raymo, 1997] in the Holocene without human influence.
      http://large.stanford.edu/publications/coal/references/docs/Lisiecki_Raymo_2005_Pal.pdf

HEY, SANE ONE did you read that? “current insolation values are not predicted to return to the high values of late MIS 11 for another 65 kyr.” That kills any possibility of a CAGW tipping point for the next 65 kyr. The solar energy just isn’t there and CO2 has already shot its wad in the first 250 ppm, the amount need to keep trees from starvation.

      http://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/co2_modtrans_img1.png

If we jack the CO2 levels up to 1100 ppm from the present 400 ppm we ONLY increase CO2 contribution by ~5 W m?2.

An older paper from 2007 also agrees with Lisieck and Raymo …
Lesson from the past: present insolation minimum holds potential for glacial inception

….Because the intensities of the 397 ka BP and present insolation minima are very similar, we conclude that under natural boundary conditions the present insolation minimum holds the potential to terminate the Holocene interglacial. Our findings support the Ruddiman hypothesis [Ruddiman, W., 2003. The Anthropogenic Greenhouse Era began thousands of years ago. Climate Change 61, 261–293], which proposes that early anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission prevented the inception of a glacial that would otherwise already have started….
      (wwwDOT)sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0277379107002715

This fall 2012 paper Can we predict the duration of an interglacial? also agrees with Lisieck and Raymo …

…although it has been unclear whether the subdued current summer insolation minimum (479 W m?2 ), the lowest of the last 800 kyr, would be sufficient to lead to glaciation (e.g. Crucifix, 2011). Comparison with MIS 19c, a close astronomical analogue characterized by an equally weak summer insolation minimum (474 W m?2 ) and a smaller overall decrease from maximum summer solstice insolation values, suggests that glacial inception is possible despite the subdued insolation forcing, if CO2 concentrations were 240 ± 5 ppmv (Tzedakis et al., 2012). …..
      (wwwDOT)clim-past.net/8/1473/2012/cp-8-1473-2012.pdf

The paper Can we predict the duration of an interglacial? gives the calculated June 22 insolation values at 65°N for several glacial inceptions:
Current value – insolation = 479W m?2 (from that paper)

      MIS 7e – insolation = 463 W m?2,
      MIS 11c – insolation = 466 W m?2,
      MIS 13a – insolation = 500 W m?2,
      MIS 15a – insolation = 480 W m?2,
      MIS 17 – insolation = 477 W m?2

So an increase in energy ‘forcing’ of 5 W m?2 from CO2 gives a value of 484 W m?2 IF mankind can jack the CO2 levels back up to over 1000 ppm and that does not necessarily get us out of the glacial inception danger zone.

It most certainly does not put the earth in to a Catastrophic Warming.

The only thing so far keeping the earth warm is the heat retained in the oceans and the Modern Solar Grand Maximum.
