According to CNN and MSNBC, free speech means you can criticize Christianity or Judaism, but not Islam.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

According to progressives, a Christian baker could not refuse to make a cake for a gay couple, but a Muslim baker could refuse to bake a cake in the image of Mohammed.
Try running a herd of pigs through a Muslim Mosque….. Or just one piglet.
…or this:

ROTFLMAO.
The smirk on Larry Pickering face next to that cartoon is icing on the cake along with the halal sticker.
I sure hope he has a hunting rifle in the house…
Sounds like a fear based philosophy.
Oxford University Press bans use of pig, sausage or pork-related words to avoid offending Muslims.

Free speech used to mean criticizing Democracy and Judaism, but not the Nazis. For example, Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator” came under official criticism from several governments as well as the American news media–for at the time of release, the USSR and Nazi Germany were allies–it wasn’t until nearly two months AFTER the May 7, 1940 release that “The Great Dictator” had the official stamp of approval.

Some things never change, do they?

On a second thought, some things do change, don’t they?
I heard an anecdote (this must have been the 50s) of a minor Yugoslavian official who said “Of course we have freedom of speech; I can cheer for Marshal Tito on any street in Belgrade.” He was fired and imprisoned for saying it.

Don’t forget the NY Times, who made an “editorial decision” not to post any of the Charlie Hebdo impages on their website, yet have no problem hosting an image of a crucifix submerged in urine.
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2009/07/22/arts/australia.jpg
If it weren’t for double standards the New York Times would have no standards at all, though in this case it may simply be that they are yellow-bellied cowards. It’s easy to be bold since no American Cardinal has issued a death sentence fatwa against their editorial board. It also doesn’t seem that any “lone wolf” Catholic assassins are planning a newsroom massacre or that Catholic sleeper cells were activated by the Vatican.
That goes back to your first post – The Russian one. In non-PC terms, it is called cowardice.
Talk about ‘Yellow Journalism’.
In PC speak that was merely provocative “art”.
Actually “Modern Art’ comes directly from the KGBs plan for attacking the core of US Society. The KGB identified and focused on the three areas of our society that pass on its cultural heritage: the media, academia/education, and entertainment.
The idea behind ‘Modern Art’ was to make people think trash was ‘Art’ and to tell them their judgment was completely off base. A form of wholesale gaslighting of the entire public.
When you think about it, it was a brilliant move. The ordinary people, disgusting ignorant peons that we are, were told they did not have the intelligence, the refined taste, to appreciate outstanding world class art. And we MUST rely on Academia to tell us what is good and what is bad. It also let the ‘arbiters of taste’ aka liberal arts academia to pick and choose who they would promote and who they would savage, based not on artistic merit but on Progressivism.
I was really happy to read that in the book Willing Accomplices: How KGB Covert Influence Agents Created Political Correctness and Destroyed America by Kent Clizbe, since as an would be artist I have always hated Modern Art.
Music was treated in the same manner. Music became noise that we were then told was ‘Art’ by Academia. ‘Musicians’ no longer had to have real talent they are just picked to promote propaganda.
All this was a process of softening up people to make them depend on what they are told is good and bad by ‘authority’ instead of relying on their own judgment.
My mother’s best friend is an artist, and she is very liberal (shocking, I know), but not Progressive. She really gets into ‘artsy-fartsy’ films, festivals and exhibits. Mom rides along and usually has a pleasant time, but does not enjoy the ‘modern’ exhibits. The three of us went out to lunch at mom’s friend’s favorite café, run by another artist (go figure). We were discussing art and I let fly that I was not a fan of most impressionist art or modern art, I heard my mother’s sharp intake of air, and waited for the artist to unleash on me. We were both shocked to hear her admit that secretly she was also not a fan, but that ‘everyone else’ was. Maybe if they would all just admit that the emperor has no clothes and is no artist, we could get back to real art.
It is strange that Islam is the most oppressive and least free and openly has rules to kill or punish gays, atheists and people trying to escape the 5th Century religion, but then they get OFFENDED when their war lord is criticized

PC has totally distorted their dictionaries in many ways. Wife was watching the Movie ‘Sum of All Fears’ the other day and commented on how good she thought it was. Tom Clancy wrote the story with Islamic terrorists being the bad guys. Hollywood switched it to Euro Terrorists. Why?
I have yet to see a book that the PC crowd in Hollywood hasn’t mangled.
National Velvet was a classic.
The story is about a 14-year-old girl, Velvet Brown, who rides her horse to victory in the Grand National steeplechase. The horse which Velvet trains and rides is named The Piebald, because it is piebald in color. To the non-Horse set this is significant because within English riding circles pintos are pariahs associated with Gypsies. You will never pin in a English class in a show on a pinto here in the USA much less in the UK. Heck even the American Quarter Horse Society will not register a pinto. Pintos are only allow as children’s ponies or in western classes.
The novel published in 1935 was about a girl who would not be allowed to ride in Grand National steeplechase because of her sex. She is riding a horse of a frowned upon color and she win. Message? Dreams CAN Come true!
Of course this didn’t go over well with the P C crowd so The Pie became an acceptably colored chestnut and the rider became Mickey Rooney. The Message? Bad Boy Makes GOOD! (Mi had been in trouble with the law.)
(H/T to my husband for pointing this out.)
I have to laugh at WIKI:
Any nine year old horse crazy girl would Boo that statement! SHE would want to ride the horse as Velvet did in the story.
Hollywood did and even better butcher job on Thunderhead by Mary O’Hara. I had just read the novel and started watching a TV version shortly after the program started. It was changed so much from the book I didn’t even recognize it!
My uncle bred Appaloosa’s, and my three cousins all rode in rodeos in and around Atlanta for most of their early lives. My cousin Cindy was rodeo queen virtually every year I can remember her riding, barrel racing was her forte, that and good looks. They had a very large trophy room to accommodate various rodeo and breeding awards. I never realized until much later in life that Appaloosa’s were held in such low esteem by so many equifiles.
gator, if they managed to win on Appy’s back then they were darn fine riders and breeders!
One of the nice things about rodeos and Gymkhanas is that it is a heck of a lot harder to cheat.
I was turned off of showing after watching a hundred dollar bill change hands to insure a Gannet (of Gannet newspapers) got a blue ribbon. She was scared to death of her horse and normally swapped horses with me because she could not handle her big thoroughbred unless he was tranked.
They were good riders, and my uncle is a genius, who reminds me of my grandfather whom I admire(d) greatly. The cousins have done very well, but none ride horses anymore.
It’s worse than that.
So the US Senators will be voting their feelings about a slogan: climate change.
I can see where this is headed. A Senate Un American Activities Committee will be empowered to subpoena citizens and put to them the hard questions:
“Are you confused between weather and climate change?”
“Do you accept the writings of the UN IPCC as the scientific truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?”
Are you now, or have you ever been a member of any organization that believes CO2 is only a harmless trace gas and is essential to plant life?”
Why is your carbon footprint so large?”
Do you advocate the overthrow of the plant’s environment, by force or violence, in support of the American Way of Life?”
Are you now, or have you ever been a member of any organization that aims to overthrow the United States climate?
Gail Combs says”:I have yet to see a book that the PC crowd in Hollywood hasn’t mangled. ”
I mentioned one on another thread. A true story. Book: http://www.amazon.com/were-Soldiers-Once-Young-Drang–/dp/0679411585/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1421334938&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=We+were+solderis+once+and+young
Movie: http://www.amazon.com/We-Were-Soldiers-Mel-Gibson/dp/B000J1AGQI/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1421335031&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=We+were+solderis+once
I could give several other examples but about all of them are war movies or in the case of Band of Brothers, miniseries from the great historians Cornelius Ryan and Stephen E Ambrose. Also the Civil War trilogy from the father & son Shaara’s were given very accurate and fair treatment in the movies portraying them I think.
Maybe they were afraid to upset the military types….
Hollywood continually portrays the US military as either stupid, incompetent, or bad guys, in their fiction.
Perhaps the exceptions I noted were because the author retained some level of creative control when he sold his work. In other cases such at the Movie Gettysburg based on the book Killer Angles, and some of Tom Hanks work on Ambroses’ books, it was a labor of Love. And of course all are heavy on real history.
I am a wee bit out of touch. Last war movies I saw had John Wayne starring.
They were the last ones worth watching.
Well, don’t fret about that, pilgrim.
They portray parents as stupid and ignorant as well. Long gone are the parents as depicted in “My Three Sons” and “Leave it to Beaver”. We progressed to “All in the Family,” (Ignorant Old conservative white man) and “The Simpsons” etc, etc.
Daavid, That is why I quit watching TV.
My ex was posted to Germany in 1974 and when I came back all the decent TV shows were off the air and there was nothing but Crap. Star trek was gone, Man from Uncle, Mission Impossible, all the westerns and police/mysteries… All replaced by silly sit-coms YUCK!!!
ah heck guys, there are some more modern ones right online you can watch for free at your leisure that are all excellent Here is s short one. If you like it I can provide some more.
The Crossing – The drama is about George Washington crossing the Delaware River and the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War. Jeff Daniels does an excellent George Washington.

You only have the freedom to be like everyone else, to stay within one or two standard deviations of the mean. It’s been like that for a long time. Go too far out and expect to be hurt.
