The Incompetence Of Mann

Leading experts Kevin Trenberth and Michael Mann both declared that the deep snow in the Northeast this winter is due to excess moisture in the atmosphere from global warming.

Neither bothered to observe that precipitation and temperatures have both been below normal in the Northeast this winter.

The local meteorologists fully explained that the amplification was from cold. They can melt the snow down to determine its water content.

4.83″ inches of percipitation resulted in 96″ of very dry snow

If it was warm moist air

4.83″ inches would have resulted in more like 20″ of wet snow

    Cold = Dry = Amplification

Warm = Wet = lower snow height

These guys should lose their jobs because it is either distortion of incompetence.

Further, they were quoted all over pushing this false narrative. Disgusting what they are doing to science.

Here on Long Island we have had snow cover on the ground for so long now it is compacted and almost glacier like. All of our bays and harbors are completely frozen. We have had temperatures near zero almost every morning for the last two weeks, something I have never seen in my 47 years here! It has been funny to see all my global warming believing friends who normally are very vocal have been dead silent! lol

  4. FTOP_T says:

It is one thing to be on the wrong side of an issue, but it is completely different to be an “expert” in an area of research like climate and either not know or willfully misrepresent something factual. There are now countless links and stories saying “Boston Snow Increased by Climate Change”, which they supported with faulty science.

    http://scienceblogs.com/gregladen/2015/02/09/boston-snow-climate-change-amplified/

This is a complete misrepresentation of the facts, and if Mann and Trenberth don’t know this, they should lose their positions because of gross incompetence. If they do know this, they should lose their jobs for failing to uphold the integrity of science.

There is no middle ground on this one.

  5. SMS says:

The amount of precipitation experienced is not primarily a result of hotter temperatures but is due more as a result of greater delta temperature the moisture laden air contacts. And that “delta temperature” is a result of very cold air coming down from the Arctic. If, as the alarmists have claimed (and Hansen shows on his maps), the air in the Arctic has warmed significantly, the entire world would be in a drought as never seen before, there would be no hurricanes or tornadoes as these are caused by “delta” T as well. But that is not the case, all of our weather has been within the boundaries of known historical records.

  6. The GHE wouldn’t be such a bad analogy if it included the influence of water vapor and humidity.

“The stability and natural fluctuations of the global average surface temperature of the heterogeneous system are ultimately determined by the phase changes of water. Many authors have proposed a greenhouse effect due to anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. The present analysis shows that such an effect is impossible.”

    • Neal S says:

I am glad to see a fellow Hungarian has written such a paper. From the conclusion …

“Unfortunately the Nobel Laureate IPCC is not a scientific authority, and their claim of the consensus and the settled greenhouse science is meaningless. The quantitative results of this paper massively contradict the CO2 greenhouse effect based AGW hypothesis of IPCC.”

    • Gail Combs says:

Water, in all its various states is a major driver of climate.

Actually all the idiot histrionics over a 0.3C change in temperature is based on the fallacy that temperature actually says anything at all about the climate/energy. You have to incorporate humidity into the equation or you are going to be way off base. A 100F temperature with a humidity of zero has less ‘energy’ than a 90F temperature with a humidity of 99%.

So using temperature, especially a ‘global’ temperature is the first scientific error made by ClimAstrologists.

    • Neal S says:

Gail mentioned water … more from the above referenced paper …

      “As long as the Earth
has unlimited water supply (in the oceans) with its
three phases permanently present in the atmosphere
and two phases on the ground surface, the stability of
the planetary climate will be controlled by the

equations. These two equations, together with the
      Clausius-Clapeyron equation, will regulate the
transfer of the latent heat through the boundary layer
in such a way that the net amount maintains the
      planetary radiative balance.”

  8. emsnews says:

We have a lot of snow on the ground (it is now piled very high here on my mountain!) due to NOT MELTING.

This snow is very dense, too. Hard as rock. Glacial.

    • Gail Combs says:

Let us know when (if) it melts this summer. Since you are in the mountains there north and west of Troy, you might want to get some photos and have a friend along so you can witness and date them… Nice to send to various Congress Critters and places like Breitbart.

      • emsnews says:

I just saw that these pit bull warmists are going after Judith Curry. She told us all some time ago to BE NICE and not call these monsters names but rather, convince they they are wrong.

Boy, is she going to get a harsh lesson on what happens to people who play cricket when others are playing full armor medieval warfare a la SCA (I used to be one of the few women who fought in full steel armor back when I was ten years younger).

The liberals are up against a wall due to extreme cold and race riots and they are on the attack because they can’t persuade anymore.

Ok back from my trip. Spent Sunday night parked at the Maryland Welcome center on South Mountain. http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/south-mountain.html At south Mountain is where the Badger and Hoosier Black hats of the 1st Brigade, 1st Div., 1st Corp. of the Army of the Potomac were given the name “The Iron Brigade”. That mountain, actually a ridge line, is also the location of the only War Correspondents Memorial that stands on the battlefield that I know of.

Delivered the 43,000 lbs of Nestle milk to the CostCo DC 25 miles down the road in Monrovia at 06:30 Monday morning. Temps in the 20’s. Drove 150 MI NE up to Gloucester, NJ across from Philly, to a place just beside the port and picked up 36,700 lbs of fresh Blueberrys. Came over the Walt Whitman bridge to get on I-76 to come home. The Delaware would be frozen over if not for the ship traffic. There were two tugs pushing a medium small container ship to the dock at the port on the Philly side and it seemed they were having a tough time though I could only observe a very short time while driving over the bridge.

Drove over the PA turnpike to the Somerset service area and took a break. Did not set my trailer brakes and left the engine on optimum idle. When I woke up at 03:30 this morning the truck thermometer read -18. Driving west the temps varied from -9 at Washington, PA to -17 just west of Cambridge,OH. By the time I got to Columbus, OH the sun was up and it was +5. Approaching Anderson it was +9 but with a stout breeze which is still blowing.
Every commercially navigable river I passed over would have been frozen over if not for barge traffic. Though the ice did not look thick enough that I would even consider walking out on it.

    • Andy DC says:

Can you explain to me how a truck driver could be so much more intelligent than leading climate scientists with PhD’s and ever some Nobel Prize winners?

      • rah says:

Not more intelligent. I have no idea what the real intelligence of leading climate scientists are. They may continually expound and broadcast stupid lies that does not mean they really are stupid. Just greedy or the disciples of a collectivist ideology. I’m just more honest in my observations and actually get outdoors and travel a good deal for my real job and make it a point to notice and think about what I see. They do what they do. I do what I do. They are what they are and I would NEVER want to be them or anything like them except I sometimes wish I would have either given Geology or Astronomy more of a chance because both of those sciences interested me back in the day and still do now.

        • gator69 says:

Most people say that it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.

  10. Andy DC says:

There are many stations in the Northeast and Midwest that are averaging 12-16 degrees below normal for February. Double digit anomalies even down to the upper South. Those are pretty astounding anomalies. It is going to be extremely frigid for the rest of the month and those anomalies are going to grow, not only shattering records for the coldest February ever, but also threatening if not breaking cold records for any month of all time!

Of course, all consistent with catastrophic warming (sarc).
