My definition of “a moderate” is someone with few principles or convictions which will go with the flow. That believes compromise is good for the sake of compromise, no matter what the result.

Actually as far as I can tell most people are asleep, assuming that their government is benign and getting on with the business of living. That is finding work, shelter, and a mate.
Few pay much attention to politics until it is shove into their face. The switch from a Yawn to avid interest in the Federal Reserve was quite interesting to watch in real time back in 2007 to 2009.
Moderates are moderate because they are asleep, or not really moderates. (See “Islam”)
Perhaps I should have used the term independents, although that doesn’t capture the ones who are sort of Democrat or sort of Republican only because they know voting third party is tossing your vote***. Therefore they are stuck picking the lesser of two evils. In politics they are called ‘Swing Voters’ and as the Tea Party showed in its early days, it comprises about 1/3 of American voters.

Gail, you terminology was correct in the current press driven vernacular. I just felt compelled to put my opinion down on what the term REALLY means in realpolitic speech. No problem using their terms because people understand them. But a Big problem is people not thinking of what the language actually means. It’s connotations that is or it real meaning either both literally and/or in the practical sense.
A little more on this concept. WE All of us pretty much, get conditioned to use words or define words or terms the way the press does even when they’re wrong.
For example lets take the term “reverse discrimination” It implies that discrimination by a minority against a majority is somehow different from just plain discrimination. Here in the US it implies to many on one hand “discrimination” is an act of a racism. But “reverse discrimination” is not!
Along those same lines “Affirmative Action”. We are told it is good thing when in fact is it racial or gender driven discrimination writ large. Discrimination against those that have shown ability or knowledge to obtain a given position in a school or an organization of business in order to give to someone less qualified because of their race or gender
I worked with a family man who was black, and thought Affirmative Action was great, until he met me. I explained to him just what AF could mean if one of his daughters ever needed brain surgery. One or two more examples, and he was permanently done with AF.
Yes, it does. The term “political moderates” is just as stupid as “innocent civilians” or “innocent bystanders”, as in “innocent bystanders were hit by shots fired at the deputies” or “ innocent civilians were killed in an attack on an American army patrol in Afghanistan”.

It is widely believed by people in Grijalva’s own area of So. Arizona that he has always been covertly supported/funded by Mexican drug cartels/ illegal drug interests. I always try for the “positive” view , but the letters to scientists impugning their scientific credentials and personal morality really anger me. Who can hire someone to investigate Grijalva?
The problem with identifying the influence of the Sun is that the variation is small (1 watt per sq meter) and the effects do not show up for as much as 30 yrs later at the end of an ocean cool cycle when heat is finally released to the atmosphere. This makes it difficult to show correlation with temperature. From 1945 to 1975 when the world was cooling sunspot cycles were strong but the extra energy was buried in the oceans (Dr Bill Gray) only to be released on top of another 30 yrs of strong solar cycles. The cool cycles also overcame the buildup of Co2 proving that the ocean PDO and AMO cycles are stronger than both Co2 and the sunspot cycles in the short term as is being proved right now with only the Pacific in cool mode overcoming Co2 warming. When the Atlantic AMO cools in 5 or ten yrs we should see cooling with low sunspots helping. Asia is also helping to cool the planet with thousands of coal plants planned depending on how much pollution control they install. Part of global warming was the cleaning up of city skies after 1975 with the removal of Sulfur Dioxide from fuels and the introduction of catalytic converter in 1975. The collapse of the Soviet union reduced pollution there by 80%? Volcanic activity is another wildcard that some say will increase with global cooling (Casey) I think people will be wishing for some global warming just as many are right now in the USA.
Climate is a complex chaotic system that we are just beginning to unravel. The science has been set back by a couple generations or more by the wholesale brainwashing by the Eco-idiots.
When it comes to climate I think we are at a place when Astronomy was someplace in between the earth centric and sun centric beliefs. IOW, this truck driver thinks we have a very long way to go before it gets put all together and in fact believes that even when we think we’ve got the basic scheme of things sorted out that we will learn to ask far more new questions than the old ones we think we’ve answered.
As I keep saying when you can explain the abrupt 8 to 16C temperature changes of the Dansgaard-Oeschger events, then get back to me about CAGW.
