Fort Collins To Confiscate $4,000 From Each Resident, To Reduce Global Temperature By 0.00000001 Degrees

ScreenHunter_1195 Mar. 09 12.27Fort Collins will spend $600 million to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 – The Denver Post

By 2030, China will be generating 400% as much CO2 as the entire US. Any changes Fort Collins makes will have zero impact on climate.

They could improve quality of life, reduce pollution and save money, by simply timing the traffic lights on College Ave.

These morons deserve to freeze in the dark. I will have no sympathy for them when it happens.

  2. Pathway says:

Ft. Collins has been full of green morons for a long time. Hope they freeze in the dark.

    • SMS says:

Ft. Collins has a long way to go before they catch up to the idiocy of Boulder. Boulder is a ripe watermelon and Ft. Collins isn’t ripe yet.

  3. richard says:

how long before the citizens start moving elsewhere.

  4. BallBounces says:

Climate justice is about neither climate nor justice. It is about feeling good about ourselves.

    • darwin says:

Well actually it’s about deindustrialization, depopulation and herding as many people as possible into mega-urban centers so the ruling class can have the planet for themselves while we toil for them and keep them rich.

  5. GeologyJim says:

This was the “money quote” in the article, IMHO

“This will be very, very costly. It will require sacrifices and willingness to pay,” Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkunat said. “We haven’t laid out how specifically to achieve it.”

In short, “we have no frikken idea what we’re doing, but it just sounds like a great plan”

Where do Progressive find these loons??

    • nielszoo says:

“… willingness to pay…” is Progressive shorthand for “…using the police power of government to force taxpayers to pay off our buddies in “green” industry that get us elected.”

    • Where do Progressive find these loons?

First they go to public schools. Then they get a BA in English. Then they teach in public schools. Then they re found.

      • geologyjim says:

        How true, PB, how true.

And, of course, there is the Teachers’ Union factor and the enforced groupthink of the faculty lounge where everything is justified as “for the children . . . and grandchildren”. Not a place for independent thinkers

    • Phil Jones says:

I wonder what Karen Weitkunat has done in her own life to reduce consumption… Go CO2 neutral…

  6. emsnews says:

Um, changing the traffic lights so you don’t get stopped constantly would be a very wonderful thing to do and will cost nearly nothing, too! 🙂

    • nielszoo says:

I used to joke when I lived in Southern CA that a mediocre traffic engineer could make a fortune fixing things there… and I was right, most of the surface traffic systems were truly mediocre.

  7. gator69 says:

This is neither science nor religion. Religions give at least part of their money to help the poor, and science is about truth. This is a mental disorder.

  8. Andy DC says:

It is all a symbolic, meaningless sacrifice to the cult of Gaia.

  9. Don B says:

It is truly fascinating how some people take as an article of faith that “renewables” will create jobs and reduce electricity costs.

Reality is troubling. Germany has done what Ft. Collins is thinking about, and the results were not good.

“Germany’s Energiewende has been sharply criticized in the past as it is in large part the main driver behind the country’s skyrocketing electricity prices, unstable power grid conditions, growing energy poverty and for marring the landscape with inefficient and ugly industrial wind turbines.

“According to Clement, Germany’s electricity prices are among the very highest in Europe and has led energy intensive heavy industries to pack up and leave. Clement says a number of industries are now “under massive pressure”.

  10. Don B says:

Boulder is even greener than Ft. Collins, but NCAR built its supercomputer in Wyoming, where coal generated electricity is cheaper.

Reblogged this on makeaneffort and commented:
When will this hogwash end? And whose nephew works for the fine folks getting this $600 million?

  12. KTM says:

Reminds me of the $7,500 federal tax credits given to people buying a Chevy Volt instead of a Cruze. Based on the minimal gas savings of an average driver, it would take 27 years to break even on the added cost of the Volt.

Most people can’t afford to pay the extra $10,000 to $20,000 price premium for a similarly equipped hybrid vehicle, yet they were subsidizing the purchases of wealthier liberals through federal tax credits.

  13. AndyG55 says:

The thing is, that Fort Collins will then expect surrounding areas to supply electricity to them when the sun don’t shine and the wind don’t blow.

That could get very expensive if the neighbours are canny 🙂

  14. Tom Moran says:

On my way from JFK to LAX, Ft. Collins looked like it was covered with global warming?

  15. Scott M says:

$600 million here and $600 million there, before you know it, its lots of money.

  16. Thehighlonesome says:

No matter anyone’s stance on CO2 and warming, I fail to see how this will result in ‘cleaner air’. CO2 at 250 or 400 ppm is not a pollutant.

  17. Tom says:

Government patronage jobs for sure, but also ruling class control of huge amounts of money, misdirected labor and energy, accumulation of power, etc, etc.

  18. Thehighlonesome says:

Fort Collins has a population of 152,061 (Census Bureau 2014-11-06). 600 M$ translates to approximately $4,000 per capita. For a family of 4 it is $16,000! I know, it is amortized over 15 years since nirvana will be reached in 2030, but it is a lot of money year upon year. Businesses will not pay ANY of this: it will be passed on to customers. Median household income for Fort Collins is $51,449 (American Community Survey, 2007-2011). Each and every year for 15 years, Fort Collins families (4 people) will pay 2% of their household income to reach nirvana!
Maggie was right…. The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples’ money.

  19. Ernest Bush says:

This is what happens when you are stupid enough to elect carpet-bagging Californians to local offices. Time to resurrect the term “railroaded out of town.”

  20. B says:

Misengineering of traffic control devices generates ticket revenue. Don’t expect timing signal lights any time soon.
