By 2030, China will be generating 400% as much CO2 as the entire US. Any changes Fort Collins makes will have zero impact on climate.
They could improve quality of life, reduce pollution and save money, by simply timing the traffic lights on College Ave.

“… willingness to pay…” is Progressive shorthand for “…using the police power of government to force taxpayers to pay off our buddies in “green” industry that get us elected.”
First they go to public schools. Then they get a BA in English. Then they teach in public schools. Then they re found.

I used to joke when I lived in Southern CA that a mediocre traffic engineer could make a fortune fixing things there… and I was right, most of the surface traffic systems were truly mediocre.
This is neither science nor religion. Religions give at least part of their money to help the poor, and science is about truth. This is a mental disorder.

Reality is troubling. Germany has done what Ft. Collins is thinking about, and the results were not good.

The only jobs will be picking up the chopped and cooked parts. The idea will fail miserably like it did in Canada. Saw an electric bill for $10,000 dollars in one month. 750 dollars in actual electricity. All of the rest was fees and tax.

Reminds me of the $7,500 federal tax credits given to people buying a Chevy Volt instead of a Cruze. Based on the minimal gas savings of an average driver, it would take 27 years to break even on the added cost of the Volt.
Most people can’t afford to pay the extra $10,000 to $20,000 price premium for a similarly equipped hybrid vehicle, yet they were subsidizing the purchases of wealthier liberals through federal tax credits.
The thing is, that Fort Collins will then expect surrounding areas to supply electricity to them when the sun don’t shine and the wind don’t blow.
That could get very expensive if the neighbours are canny 🙂

No matter anyone’s stance on CO2 and warming, I fail to see how this will result in ‘cleaner air’. CO2 at 250 or 400 ppm is not a pollutant.
Government patronage jobs for sure, but also ruling class control of huge amounts of money, misdirected labor and energy, accumulation of power, etc, etc.
Fort Collins has a population of 152,061 (Census Bureau 2014-11-06). 600 M$ translates to approximately $4,000 per capita. For a family of 4 it is $16,000! I know, it is amortized over 15 years since nirvana will be reached in 2030, but it is a lot of money year upon year. Businesses will not pay ANY of this: it will be passed on to customers. Median household income for Fort Collins is $51,449 (American Community Survey, 2007-2011). Each and every year for 15 years, Fort Collins families (4 people) will pay 2% of their household income to reach nirvana!
