Out of control rent seekers posing as scientists have been making lots of claims of doomed industries over the last decade. Most notably the ski, wine and tourist industries.
In a sense they are correct. If their carbon taxes come to fruition, they will damage all of these industries. The industry which needs to be taken down is fraudulent climate science.
Of course, when their policies destroy those industries they’ll just say, “See we were right!”. Self fulfilling prophecy.
They are making friends! Among short sellers.
And “climate science” is truly an industry. It boggles the mind how much claptrap junk science they can churn out with $billions in funding.
Although our climate is truly complex, the principles behind it are not and are easily understood. It’s the many interactions at such a wide range of scales that makes it impossible to truly understand or predict. This is why looking to the past is so important and fruitful, as the Earth integrates and correlates all factors constantly and shows us the results in real time every day! It’s the ultimate computer model (a la Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) which cannot over look even the smallest factor.
It is the value of the past and our climate and weather patterns that the AGW crowd does not want us to realize. They shortstop danger to their agenda by claiming, unilaterally and groundlessly, that all natural factors and cycles have been canceled by the addition of a small amount of a trace gas to the atmosphere and that CO2 now drives our climate, reducing climate science down to one single factor and blaming it all on man.
Once carbon taxation starts there will be no way to stop it. If it warms, alarmists will say that we are paying for past pollution and need to tax more. If it cools, they will say that the taxes are working and pat themselves on the back. There is no way they can ever lose.

And that is the problem in a nutshell.
