Plummeting Winter Temperatures Caused By Chinese Power Plants

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/

a study by Robert Kaufmann, of Boston University, and his colleagues has discovered that the levelling off of surface temperatures during this period can be explained by the sulphate particles released into the atmosphere from coal-burning power stations. This has the effect of reflecting sunlight and heat away from Earth.

She turned the scientist into a newt, and he didn’t get better.

You start grasping at straws when your theory falls apart.

  2. Dave N says:

They left out “it can also be explained by natural variability”.

  3. AndyW says:

So two wrongs do make a right after all. Thank heavens for the Chinese 😀

Sure! Give us the trend (pssst, ignore the anomaly behind the curtain), then smooth it out by 250km and you’ve got an agenda proven. By the way, do you really think that .03 is plummeting?

    Here’s a .53C increase:

“You are using 1200km smoothing across 1,000 miles of no data in the Arctic, and then complaining about me using 250km smoothing. remarkably daft.”

“Alaska and Russia winters are cooling at 70C per century.”

What is this cooling based on? Another short “trend” of a few years? Is it even meaningful to speak of centuries?

Amazing how their winters are skiing downhill while their summers are:

“Interpolated” data in areas where no one lives (Arctic, Antarctic, South Pacific) apparently has a larger bearing in determining world temperature than more reliable temperatures recorded in places where most people live.

  7. mohatdebos says:

You are missing the point: they are acknowledging that temperatures are not rising. The next step, assuming they retain their funding and are not demoted to the basement office, will be to accept that etmperatures are declining, and then …

  8. Philip Finck says:

That is why Hansen loves the Chinese so much. By burning all that coal they are saving all of the evil western people who consume electricity from nice scrubbed coal burning plants from being fried by the CO2 emissions.

So as far as the Chinese go it is burn baby burn. But doesn’t this mean that if the western world reduces CO2 out put, without China reducing coal burning, we could have significant cooling? Life is so complicated. It is so reassuring that we have these climate change scientists to keep us on the straight and narrow.

  9. Edward says:

    Can you dig it??

Sooooooo……………….if we start burning more coal in the West [Germany is going for it – on the QT], then we must halt the scrubbing out of SO2, then we can burn as much coal as we want or need and the mmGHG is cancelled out by particulates and aerosols in the upper atmosphere…..Wow – Pennsylvannia, get digging and burning that coal!
