Wow.. it has been a long time since I’ve seen the word “privation” used.
The 1890’s were an absolute nightmare in terms of climate in Queensland. There were cyclones in 1892, 1893, 1894, 1896 and 1898 that caused substantial damage and flooding.
Then of course there was the big one: Mahina in 1899.. which remains unprecedented in terms of damage and loss of life. Must have been all those horse-drawn SUV’s.
At least the climate was stable
