Combet To Spend $4 Million Of Taxpayer Money On Propaganda Campaign

Labour wants to explain how higher taxes and electricity prices improve the lives of Australians.

EVERY Australian household will receive a brochure on the proposed carbon tax under a $4 million taxpayer-funded letter drop.

Climate Change Minister Greg Combet announced the move today as he unveiled a legislative exposure draft on the tax, which will lock in an 80 per cent cut to carbon emissions by 2050.

The letter drop was immediately branded “junk mail” by the opposition.

Mr Combet said 14 separate bills would establish the carbon pricing mechanism, a range of new regulatory agencies and provide compensation to households and industry.

The legislation has been fast-tracked by the government as it struggles to repel an anti-carbon tax campaign by Tony Abbott.

In an address at Sydney University, Mr Combet said government brochures containing “factual information” on the carbon tax would be mailed to every Australian household from next week. The brochures will be addressed “To the householder”.
