I was at the archery range tonight for an hour, and then stopped at Whole Foods to buy some groceries. When I got back to the house I brought the groceries in, and left the bow in the car in its case.
At 1:00 am I was about to go to bed, and decided to go out to the car and bring the bow in to the house. As I was carrying the bow in, a car driving through the neighborhood stops right in front of the driveway. I turn around and see that it is a cop who is too stupid to know the difference between a rifle case and a bow case. He thinks that I am bringing a rifle into the house and that he is about to stop the crime of the century. (I’m guessing that most mass murderers don’t show up with a rifle zipped up in a case.)
I finally got rid of him after 15 minutes.
The only trouble we ever have around here is from the police, who think that there is an Adam Lanza hiding behind tree.
Where are you?
Fort Collins, Colorado
Barney Fife syndrome… just like those idiots in LA who shot up those two ladies. For me, it’s another data point in understanding the general incompetence today.
In this general situation, I find I have to pay attention to what seems like small details. So I would add, others reading your story might want to not leave it to 1 am to bring into the house what could be seen as a “suspicious package” by their own friendly but fearful neighborhood protectors.
I’d love to have a recording of the conversation you had with him.
Even if it had been a rifle, weren’t you on your own property at the time? Or does Colorado not recognize the right to keep and bear arms?
Fort Collins police are rogue and don’t care about the law. I have a CCW but I know that the police here wouldn’t hesitate to shoot someone they found carrying a gun.
