Forget police drones flying over your house. How about police coming inside, once a year, to have a look around?
As Orwellian as that sounds, it isn’t hypothetical. The notion of police home inspections was introduced in a bill last week in Olympia.

The murder rate in Kenya is over 20 per 100,000, as compared to less than 4 per 100,000 in the USA. In Kenya it is illegal for a private citizen to own auto or even semi-auto weapons. They must renew licenses every year and provide a valid “genuine” reason for possession. It is also illegal to carry guns in public, concealed or otherwise.
Gun regulation in Kenya is classified as “restrictive”, and they have over 5 times the murder rate we do. Chicago and LA are about the same with just under 20 per 100,000. Then there is Detroit, with 53 per 100,000. What is it about Kenya and our inner cities?
It’s tough being an American gunowner here in Australia. We put up with unannounced police inspections of our (compulsory registered, magazine limited, bolt-action and small caliber handgun only) firearms safekeeping here. It is acceptable to politely refuse the un-announced visit, but you then must verbally agree a time when you’ll be around. And then they ask all kinds of unrelated questions. What kind of welder is that? What are those chemicals for? Is that milling machine CNC? How long have you had that lathe? That looks like an awful lot of 12 volt batteries in that shelf-rack. What is that?
I’ll have to renew my license this year, with a raft of valid reasons. Self defense is NOT one of them. Renewal every 5 years or the guns go.
