The perfect can be the enemy of the good, but here moderation or “probity” might turn out to be the enemy of life. In the midst of all the conditionals and uncertainties, one thing that can be said about mainstream climate science is that it has always been behind the curve, always catching up with the moving reality on the ground. The facts have repeatedly aligned with radical predictions, like those of the scientist James Hansen, who is now talking about the oceans boiling off and leaving the earth lifeless.

On the same page, there’s the story about the Dutch study finding Antarctica’s expanding sea ice from April 2.
”Against the background of global climate warming, the expansion of Antarctic sea ice is an exceptional feature, which seems to be associated with decreasing sea-surface temperatures in the Southern Ocean,” they write.
Seems to be associated with decreasing SST in the Southern Ocean???!!! Of course it is, you Dutch muppets!! What else would it be associated with? More heat?? Whoever writes these press releases have a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock.
It happened to the planet Mars so why it couldn’t be the future of Earth?

Of all the things that may happen on this planet, the oceans will not be boiled away due CO2. The sun can heat CO2 but that heat cannot enter the ocean. You can not heat water from above due to surface tension.
That must explain why your swimming pool doesn’t warm up during the summer.

One of the things that appalls me about Hansen is that he asserts there will be massive “positive” (amplifying) feedbacks that will kick in as CO2 levels increase. But even if the CO2 levels are (relatively) new to the earth’s climate system, the feedback mechanisms are not. All of the feedback mechanisms that could possibly act to amplify the CO2 greenhouse effect — increasing water vapor, decreasing cloud cover, decreasing snow/ice albedo, melting permafrost leading to increasing methane emissions — have long been in place. If they are as massive as Hansen is asserting, the earth’s climate would long ago have spiraled out of control in response to natural perturbations.
Note that I am not even acknowledging that all of these are even really amplifying feedbacks, merely that he asserts that they are. Oh, and I say all this as someone whose academic and professional specialty for the last 30 years has been feedback control systems.
They are now claiming that cold and snow is caused by missing Arctic ice. If true, this would be a strong negative feedback – which wrecks their theory.
Reading these comments, I got a laugh over the earnest twaddle about calling on social scientists to “help resolve this paradox”. Does Mr. Fri have Stephen Lewandowsky in mind for the job?
Or how about Diederich Stapel? (Now there’s the man to resolve paradoxes.)
