Judith Curry, chair of the School of Earth And Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech, says the IPCC is taking a huge credibility hit over the hiatus – and its pronouncement that it is 95 percent certain that human activity is responsible for most global warming.

“I’m not happy with the IPCC,” she told Fox News. “I think it has torqued the science in an unfortunate direction.”

That torquing, she suggests, is because the money in climate science (the funding, that is) is tied to embellishing the IPCC narrative, especially the impacts of global warming. She is critical of the IPCC’s leadership as well, in particular its chairman, Rajendra Pachauri.

“They have explicit policy agendas,” Curry told Fox News. “Their proclamations are very alarmist and very imperative as to what we should be doing. And this does not inspire confidence in the final product.”

The Obama/CNN/NBC press corpse is working double-time, making up fake polls to show that most Americans will “blame the Republicans” for the shutdown.

In the real world, the only thing anyone ever remembers is who won and who lost. If something named Obamacare (which most people don’t like) gets thrown under the bus, it isn’t too difficult to figure out who the loser is.

The only way to find out if US government discretionary spending is 80% waste or 90% waste, is to shut it down and see what happens. Odds are America will be a much better place in two weeks, assuming Boehner doesn’t cave.

drought to persist from the High Plains all the way to the West Coast, including the Pacific Northwest

The drought is the worst to strike the U.S. since the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s and lengthy droughts of the 1950s. It came on suddenly and largely without warning, and although the main trigger was most likely the pattern of water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the drought was exacerbated by extremely hot temperatures during the spring and summer. Climate studies have shown that the odds of severe heat waves are increasing due to man made climate change.

In Seattle and Olympia, Wash., Sept. 28 was the wettest September day on record. In Seattle, 1.71 inches of rain fell, which was more rain than typically falls during the entire month.

A study published earlier this year found that climate change may contribute to the growth of atmospheric rivers, increasing the threat of associated flooding.
