Report: Ski industry sees $1 billion in global warming losses Posted on December 6, 2012 by Bob Berwyn

SUMMIT COUNTY — A new report on the economic costs of global warming to the ski industry will resonate especially loudly during Colorado’s second consecutive early season snow drought.

Snowfall in Colorado has been increasing for 80 years. One dry year is not a trend.

Big Science At The New York Times

The New York Times sees themselves defenders of big science.

Last month’s “weather event” should have taught us that. Whether in 50 or 100 or 200 years, there’s a good chance that New York City will sink beneath the sea.

Is This the End? – NYTimes.com

The tide gauge at Manhattan shows 4 mm/year change in sea level over the last 150 years, and no change in the rate of sea level rise during that period. This means we can expect about 35 cm (14 inches) of additional “sea level rise” by the year 2100 – almost all of which is due to post glacial rebound causing the land to subside.

I’m guessing that the Statue Of Liberty is more than fourteen inches tall.

Understanding Permafrost Melt

DOHA, Nov 27 (Reuters) – Permafrost lands across Siberia and Alaska that contain vast stores of carbon are beginning to thaw, bringing with it the threat of a big increase in global warming by 2100, a U.N. report said on Tuesday.

A thaw of the vast areas of permanently frozen ground in Russia, Canada, China and the United States also threatens local homes, roads, railways and oil pipelines, the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP) said in the report which was released at the U.N. climate talks being held this week and next in Qatar.

Global Warming Threat: Permafrost Thawing Across Siberia And Alaska Poses New Concern, UNEP Reports

Temperatures in Siberia are running thirty to fifty degrees below zero, which represents ideal conditions for a massive meltdown and release of hot air from Doha.

Major Hurricanes In The US Peaked Between 1930 And 1960

ScreenHunter_331 Dec. 08 21.40

U.S. Hurricane Strikes by Decade

The four busiest decades for major hurricane strikes in the US were the 1890s, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.

The US is currently experiencing the longest period without a major hurricane strike since the Civil War.

We would expect that a warming Arctic would lead to fewer and weaker hurricanes, because it weakens the Earth’s heat engine. Heat engines are driven by differences in temperature, and as the temperature difference between the pole and the equator decreases – so does the potential for storms.

Venus has a uniform hot temperature, and has no weather at all.

Hansen “Is Not A Flake” – Predicts Five Metres Of Sea Level Rise

SFU geology professor John Clague, who studies the effect of the rising sea on the B.C. coast, says a rise of about one metre is more likely.

“One of the most famous atmospheric scientists, James Hansen, is arguing we could be facing five-metre higher sea levels by the end of the century, and he’s not a flake, he’s a very renowned scientist,” said Clague.

Sea level rise underestimated, say B.C. scientists – British Columbia – CBC News

There has been no change in sea level along the B.C. coast for the past 100 years. Neither Hansen nor Clague have the slightest clue what they are talking about.
