Institutional Stupidity In Soccer Defense

Spurs are beating City at halftime, for the same reason that Aston Villa lost yesterday.

There is no sane reason to play an offsides trap on a set piece. Defenders should be running away from the goal, not towards it. Offensive players always have the advantage when everyone is running in towards the goal. Manchester United gets most of their goals on crosses when defenders are facing the wrong direction, including the winner yesterday. Rooney scored an own goal a couple of weeks ago, because he was facing in.

You don’t gain anything by trying to hold the line on a set piece. Why does everyone make the same mistake? Just say no to offsides traps on set pieces.

New York Times : Carbon Tax Will Reduce Taxes And Increase Personal Freedom

The Most Sensible Tax of All

The United States should jump at the chance to adopt a similar revenue-neutral tax swap. It’s an opportunity to reduce existing taxes, clean up the environment and increase personal freedom and energy security.

Washington Post Endorses A Carbon Tax To Prevent Hurricane Sandy

The Post is telling Obama to pull a Julia Gilliard, and implement a carbon tax after the election.

The Post’s View The carbon tax

EARLY WEDNESDAY, delivering his victory speech in Chicago, President Obama elevated an issue that had hardly come up during the campaign. “We want our children to live in an America,” he said, “that isn’t threatened by the destructive power of a warming planet.”

Later that day, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters that climate change is an important issue and that he wants to “address it reasonably” — particularly following big storms in the Northeast that have highlighted rising sea levels and other dangers associated with global warming.

……..

A tax on carbon ….. is the best plan lawmakers can take off the shelf to fight global warming.

The carbon tax – The Washington Post

There can be little doubt that raising US taxes during a deep recession will end the 20,000 year long rise in sea level, and prevent future hurricanes from intersecting with cold fronts.

1849 Superstorm Constantinople

Experts tell us that hurricanes combined with snowstorms are a new phenomena caused by your SUV.

DESTRUCTIVE HURRICANE AT CONSTANTINOPLE.

In a letter dated Constantinople, Jun. 7, we find the following :—” On the 3rd of this month we had here one of those dreadful hurricanes which are only to be found in the annals of the West Indies. At half-past ten at night a heavy shower of rain fell, which was rapidly succeeded by a snow storm ; at about midnight it blew a thorough hurricane, which lasted till day- break. Never in the memory of man had such a storm burst over Constantinople. Trees were unrooted, houses unroofed, chimneys hurled to the ground. Several minarets have lost their kullafs, or extinguishers, and the steeple of the Galata Tower was blown clean off. The old bridge was broken to pieces, and, floating about the port, caused considerable damage to the shipping. The losses have been calculated at upwards of ten millions of piasters. Among other losses an Eng- lish brig, name unknown, was lost at the mouth of the Black Sea.”

Sea Level To Rise More Than Four Feet In Seattle

Parts of Puget Sound could rise 2 feet
Scientists offer projections on higher sea level

January 17, 2008

A study released Thursday by scientists with the University of Washington and state Department of Ecology could help answer that question.

In the worst case — which assumes high levels of greenhouse gas emissions and faster melting of ice sheets — Puget Sound is inundated with nearly 2 feet of water by midcentury, more than 4 feet by 2100.

Parts of Puget Sound could rise 2 feet – seattlepi.com

Experts indeed tell us that greenhouse gases are rising faster than expected and ice sheets are also melting faster than expected (at -50C.)

Sea level in the region has been completely steady since 1975, Tamino’s period of modern global warming. Once again, scientists are trying to pretend that they know something scary, when in fact there is not one shred of evidence to support their claims.

CO2 and Arctic ice are very versatile in their effects on the climate system. Some years they even  cause normal temperatures.

Only 101 Degrees Need To Start The Meltdown

Temperatures on the Greenland ice sheet have dropped to 101 degrees F below the freezing point. This is exactly what we expect from an overheated atmosphere, and is a sure sign that the ice sheets are going to melt and drown us all.

There can be little doubt that NASA will make a big deal about the record cold, and that it will be widely covered by the press.
