That is brilliant. Droughts happen every few years. Fortunately we haven’t had a repeat of the 1930s or 1950s recently.

The graph below shows last month’s version of USHCN final minus TOBS.
TOBS itself is completely out of control, but what is this additional steadily increasing two degree adjustment about?
It is not documented by USHCN, which only admits another 0.2F above TOBS. Whatever this adjustment is, it is 1000% above what they are documenting.

In Menne at al 2009, they claim that the TOBS adjustments in USHCN2 are the same as in USHCN1.

As you can see, they have added an extra 0.2 F (60%) on to the TOBS adjustment since USHCN 1. The claims in Menne et al are incorrect.
The USHCN station history file shows almost no changes to temperature observation times after 1990, so it seems quite likely that the USHCN2 post 1990 TOBS upwards adjustments are complete garbage – added on to bring the numbers up.
Barry was fresh out of school and looking to make some money from writing. He was noticed by Jane Dystel who offered to take him under her wing.
Barry became her client, and Miriam Goderich put together the promotional booklet below, stating that Barry was born in Kenya. It is inconceivable that the bio was not written by Barry, because that is how these things are always done. Where else could Miriam have possibly gotten his personal information from?
Even more implausible is that he was unaware of the booklet. It would have been a very big deal for him at that stage of his life.
