The Prince of Wales has warned of the “catastrophic” consequences of inaction on issues such as climate change, at a UN sustainability conference in Brazil.

Prince Charles said he had “watched in despair” at the slow pace of progress on the “critical issues of the day,” in a pre-recorded video address in Rio.

He urged world leaders to adopt a more integrated approach to issues such as climate change and food security.

Waiting for the worst to happen would be “too late to act at all”, he said.

11 Mar 1846 – ON THE CHANGE OF CLIMATE. 

Ever since Captain Cook introduced the SUV to Australia, CO2 (produced by white men) has been ruining their climate.

One particularly useful approach to uncover local ecological histories has been to use dendrochronological (tree-ring) methods to reconstruct patterns of fire occurrence and forest change over the last several hundred years, primarily in the Jemez Mountains but also in the Sangre de Cristos. Old trees can tell many stories if one knows how to decipher the information contained in their wood. This tree-ring work is being accomplished through a cooperative effort involving the U.S. Geological Survey’s Jemez Mountains Field Station (located at Bandelier National Monument), Professor Tom Swetnam’s group at theLaboratory of Tree-Ring Research (University of Arizona), and the Santa Fe and Carson National Forests. Since 1988 we have determined over 4,000 prehistoric fire dates from fire scars on more than 550 sampled trees, snags, logs, and stumps at 30 sites in the Jemez Mountains. In the Sangre de Cristos we have about 170 prehistoric fire dates from over 50 sampled trees at four sites. Elevations of sampled sites ranged between about 6,500 and 11,000 ft; vegetation varied correspondingly from piñon-juniper woodlands up through ponderosa pine to mixed conifer and spruce forests. Each scar is dated to its precise year of formation, and in most cases even the season in which the fire occurred was determined. Fire dates extend back to 1422 AD in the Jemez Mts. and to 1230 AD in the Sangre de Cristos.

I took this picture an hour ago from the top of the ridge  behind the CSU football stadium. If you look closely, you can see a wisp of smoke. (Don’t worry – I rode my bicycle and didn’t contribute a lot of CO2.)

This mega-fire is about 2% the size of the 1890 fire, which burned from Santa Fe well up into Colorado along the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Experts also tell us that the Gila Wilderness fire currently burning in New Mexico is the largest in New Mexico’s history, despite the fact that the 1890 fire was much larger.

There is a lot of cold water circulating from Alaska down the west coast of Canada,  the US and Mexico. The cold water is mixing with equatorial waters and keeping the temperature down.

Hansen and Appell are hoping for a very big El Nino (to bring 2012 temperatures closer to Hansen’s zero emissions scenario C) but pre-school level science explains to us why that isn’t likely to happen.

Michael Mann introduced a new concept of fraud to science, when he threw out the tree ring data after 1960.

Briffa’s trees (green above) accurately showed the same post 1940 cooling as the 1975 report of the National Academy Of Sciences.

Mann didn’t like that data, because his job was to eliminate the MWP. So he simply threw out the proxy data after 1960, and replaced it with Hansen’s doctored thermometer data.

Once Hansen and Mann had cleared the way for the biggest scientific fraud in history, it became possible to do the same with sea level.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) declared on the Senate floor Thursday that the debate over whether humans are causing climate change is over, and that it has been shown conclusively that human activity is leading to global warming.

“People say there are questions about the theory,” he said. “No, there are not.

“The argument that the jury is still out on climate change is a false and bogus argument,” he added. “The jury is not out. In fact, the jury is in, the effects are obvious, they surround us every day, and we need to take action.”

Whitehouse said the theory that warmth creates a moist atmosphere that traps heat has been around since the Civil War. “That’s been basic textbook science for a century,” he said. “It’s never been controverted. It’s a law, essentially, of science.”

Untill Hansen corrupted the data for the umpteenth time in 2005, 1934 was the hottest year on record in the US. It was also the driest year on record in the US – with 80% of the country experiencing drought simultaneously. Hot temperatures are associated with a dry atmosphere, not a wet atmosphere – like in Texas last month.

Like Obama, Whitehouse assumes that Democratic Party voters are complete morons.

Waving a planted press commentary, Obama recently claimed on the campaign stump, “federal spending since I took office has risen at the slowest pace of any President in almost 60 years.”

Obama has increased the national debt by about as much as all previous presidents combined. Next term he says he will fix the climate.

GISS May is out. The 2012 average temperature anomaly (so far) is second coldest year of the millenium at 0.48C. Temperatures continue to plummet below Hansen’s zero emissions Scenario C.

Scenario A is the one we should be comparing against, because it was the only scenario which assumed increasing emissions of greenhouse gases.

If Hansen were correct, the 2012 anomaly would be almost three times higher than it is – and going up instead of going down. Hansen’s theory is a massive fail..
