GISS Vs. UAH With The Same Baseline (1981-2010)

People have been asking for an apples to apples comparison of GISS vs. UAH March 2011 temperatures using the same baseline. As you can see, it doesn’t make much difference.

UAH shows all of Greenland below the 1981-2010 mean, and GISS shows most of it above the 1981-2010 mean – by as much as 4C.

GISS Danmarkshavn

I posted a couple of articles yesterday comparing GISS March temperatures vs satellite data in Greenland.

Reader Glc pointed out that GISS does have one station in northern Greenland with a long term contiguous temperature record. That station, Danmarkshavn, showed March, 2011 as 2.4C above the 1981-2010 mean.

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/work/gistemp/STATIONS//tmp.431043200000.1.1/station.txt

I placed a red circle below for Danmarkshavn on the UAH March TLT map, which shows  anomalies realitive to the 1981-2010 mean. UAH shows an anomaly of more than 1C below normal.

So why is GISS showing Danmarkshavn with a +2.4C anomaly for the same time period using the same baseline? A 3.4C discrepancy in the anomaly is huge. Could it be UHI?

Obama On Regime Change

Obama used to think regime change was a bad idea. He also used to believe that harsh interrogation was illegal.

Things are different now. He actively supported regime change in Egypt, and has been busy the last couple of weeks with assassination missions in Libya and Pakistan. He also seems to be working on regime change in Syria. Apparently he thinks it is better to shoot someone in the head than to waterboard them or give them a military trial.

Obama’s ongoing changes in his belief system remind me of one of my favorite movies.

Bentley: I heard in Cairo that Major Lawrence has a horror of bloodshed.

King Feisal: That is exactly so. With Major Lawrence, mercy is a passion. With me, it is merely good manners. You may judge which motive is the more reliable.

To Tell The Truth

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-QSz4R7mR0]

Frank Abagnale had an amazing story of deceit, which was turned into a great movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio, Tom Hanks and Christopher Walken – Catch Me If You Can. I had the opportunity to meet Frank a couple of years ago – he is an amazing person.

Here is Obama’s “official” digitally altered birth certificate, and one which turned up last year.

WRF Verification

Over the last two days we have had January high temperatures in Colorado, and about 10% of our normal annual precipitation has fallen in the last 36 hours. A few days ago I ran a four day GFS/WRF (NCAR) weather simulation (above) which did an excellent job of predicting the patterns and quantity of rain.

The mountains must be getting tons of additional snow. Here is the view from Glacier Basin Campground In Rocky Mountain National Park

Mississippi Floods Have Nothing To Do With Warming

http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/products/maps/acis/WaterTDeptUS.png

Since the start of the water year (October 1) temperatures along the Mississippi River drainage have generally ranged from 0 to 8 degrees below normal. The largest precipitation anomalies (image below) have occurred in regions which were also the coldest – North Dakota eastern Montana, Minnesota, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, etc. By contrast, Texas was warm and dry.

Back In The USSR – With The Most Transparent White House In History

(May 11, 2011) — Lieutenant Colonel Terry Lakin will be returning to Baltimore on Saturday, May 14, 2011, after serving five months in Fort Leavenworth. Terry was sentenced to confinement with loss of pay, benefits and pension due to a series of events resulting from his request for confirmation of the president’s eligibility to hold office.

For more than two years Terry tried to get confirmation of the Commander in Chief’s eligibility. He followed every proper procedural means at his disposal as a senior officer and Army doctor. In late 2010 LTC Lakin chose to invite his own court martial with the hopes that the normal processes of legal discovery would provide some answers.  Instead the court refused all requests for discovery.  Nor did the court allow any witnesses. With no defense, Terry was found guilty of the charges resulting from his refusal to deploy.  The details of Terry’s initial action and his thoughts on the two pre-trial hearings are outlined in two videos available on the TerryLakin.com website. The videos and case timeline can be viewed at http://www.terrylakin.com/ and http://www.terrylakin.com/timeline.

Floods In Mississippi Due To Warming Temperatures?

Over the last 90 years, Mississippi has cooled at a rate of 1.8F per century. Peak temperatures occurred during the 1920s.

Peak precipitation occurred during the 1970s.

Levees Are Drowning New Orleans

Is it your train that is moving, or the one next to you? Tide gauges show the Louisiana coast to have the fastest “sea level rise” on the planet. But it doesn’t have much or anything to do with changes in sea level. The land is sinking.

The crust floats on a highly viscous mantle. When floods spread an inch of silt across the flood plain, the land later sinks nearly 2/3 of an inch to compensate (continental crust is less dense than the mantle, which is why it floats.)

By putting levees up along the river, they have stopped the flooding and deposition of silt. The land is sinking because of the weight of sediment from past floods, as well as pumping of oil and groundwater – which causes subsidence. But no new land is forming because of the levees.
