CHICAGO, Feb. 22— A wiretap tape was played in Federal court today on which Allen M. Dorfman, a murdered Chicago insurance executive, was heard saying the Kansas City Mafia had obtained a commitment that Roy L. Williams would be made president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Mr. Williams and Mr. Dorfman, along with a reputed Chicago Mafia leader, Joseph Lombardo, and two others were convicted last December of conspiracy to bribe a United States Senator and to defraud the union’s health and welfare fund. Mr. Dorfman was killed in a Chicago suburb last month.
Nothing ever changes in Chicago. I knew Dorfman’s son David at ASU, and met the father in 1974. It took me about 10 seconds to recognize that Chicago politics was something that needs to be tightly contained. Unfortunately it was allowed to escape in 2008.
In Chicago, health insurance does not necessarily have the same meaning it has in other places.
That Obama was hand picked by some select group is not in doubt. But who? A nonentity rises to the US Senate, is a no-show, and wins the Dem nomination? Then the Repubs run a dope in McCain? Less and less power in the hands of the People.
Jeffrey Bleich is just finishing his 4 year stint as US ambassador to Australia.
He gave an excellent valedictory speech at the national Press Club in Canberra today.
While he was appointed by Obama, he must have slipped through the Chicago mafia selection process. He has been an excellent representative for the USA and you should appoint him somewhere he can make a difference when he gets back home in a few weeks. A real stand up guy. Look for his speech on Sept 11 on the URL below once it is posted. He is the opposite of Kerry, Clinton, McCain and the rest of those political hacks.
