You can’t make up stupid and arrogant like Democratic politicians.
Syracuse, N.Y. — Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters last week that the rare deadly tornado that struck Madison County on July 8 was part of a “new normal” of extreme weather.
“We don’t get tornadoes in New York, right? Anyone will tell you that,” Cuomo said at a news conference July 8 in Smithfield, where the tornado struck. “Well, we do now.”
In fact, we always have.
Since the federal government started keeping a tally in 1950, New York has had at least 417 tornadoes. That’s an average of seven per year.
“For him to say we don’t get tornadoes in New York was incorrect,” said Scott Steiger, a SUNY Oswego meteorology professor. “He didn’t do his homework. Severe weather has happened in New York for a long time.”
Cuomo says ‘we don’t get tornadoes’ in NY, but we’ve had at least 417 | syracuse.com

Some professor trying to make Andrew look like an idiot!
Not a very difficult task, unfortunately.
The only dangerous climate change that we’ve seen, is the political climate….that unnatural change, IS threatening life as we know it!
now tornadoes are called severe weather……..they’ll start naming them next
Liberals? Homework? Like kryptonite to superman!
Their “feelings” are their “facts.” “Feelings” are better than “facts”!
“Deniers” and others not equipped to perceive these “feelings” deserve nothing but ridicule with “facts.”
Global warming lowers IQ level. Democrats hardest hit.
There have been tornados right down in NYC, 5 of them over the past 50 years, if I recall rightly.
There was a tornado at Flushing Meadow Park (in Queens) just a few years ago. One person was killed when a tree was knocked over and landed on her car, if I remember the details correctly.
September of 2012…waterspout made landfall in Queens. Several on Long Island.
I don’t think that there is any part of North America (state or provence) that hasn’t had at least 1 in the last 50 yrs. And yes, waterspouts count…
Why waste ideology on intellect?
I forecast change in the SUNY Oswego Meteorology Department.
Argumenst based on the reasoning of “everybody will tell you that”, with “everybody” referencing “everybody that shares my opinion on the matter at hand” are so charming. Everybody will tell you that.
I live in Westchester County NY. I can show you the repari line in my neighbor’s chimney where the tornado that went down my block took it off.
If you check the infamous April 28,1975 Newsweek article about the “The Cooling World” it was reported that the US had a record number of tornadoes, which scientists implied were caused by AGC (anthropogenic global cooling). “Last April (1974), in the most devastating outbreak of tornadoes ever recorded, 148 twisters killed more than 300 people and caused half a billion dollars’ worth of damage in thirteen U.S. states.” Cuomo’s rare tornado in New York is clear and convincing proof that the world is cooling, and unless we burn as much coal as we can to increase CO2 in the atmosphere, we’re all doomed. Thank God for China!
True. OT from politics though, Drudge is headlining a CBS article: NASA: Humans Will Prove ‘We Are Not Alone In The Universe’ Within 20 Years.
Now I commented about an hour ago and have 5 Likes already:
And as far as the supposed credibility of NASA, in terms of their constant predictions of doom with global warming, because the doomsayers are always saying how they have NASA on their side, but look at the nutcases at NASA, for example… this is what the former Chief Scientist at NASA said two years ago:
“If Canada proceeds [with its tar sands oil development]… ice sheets would accelerate out of control. Sea levels would rise and destroy coastal cities. Global temperatures would become intolerable. Twenty to 50 percent of the planet’s species would be driven to extinction.” -James Hansen, 2012
That’s obvious unhinged insanity from NASA. And btw, this is what the same James Hansen of NASA said in 1988: “[in twenty years (2008)] the West Side Highway (and thus much of Manhattan) will be under water.” -James Hansen, 1988, NASA [there hasn’t even been a detectable inch of sea rise since 1988 at Manhattan, lol]
I didn’t add think link because I wasn’t sure whether links were allowed: http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2012/09/28/manhattan-underwater-update/
At first I thought this article was on guns but it’s on tornadoes. But as far as guns, have you ever noticed that rino types like Chris Christie and Romney tend to favor together this trio of issues: gun control, amnesty, and climate change. Take the case of the gun grabbing Romney, who in 2005 was seen in a youtube as being for amnesty, was also renowned for having the “a massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the United States” nutcase John Holdren as a top climate adviser as MA governor, and now Romney has predictably gone back to favoring amnesty (incredible because this is the one issue that the self-described “non-partisan progressive” used to appear to be a “severe conservative” and bludgeon his opponents): http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/05/30/Mitt-Romney-Not-Healthy-Congress-Hasn-t-Passed-Amnesty
Don’t forget New York’s devastating Chateauguay Tornado in 1856.
…”Tornados in upstate New York, are comparatively rare events, but are by no means anything new.
Similar storms in the past have wreaked devastation in New York and New England, but few have had the incredible impact of the twister that struck northern Franklin County on June 30, 1856.
The extent of destruction along the eight-mile path through the towns of Burke and Chateaugay was of near-Biblical proportions. In the final tally, 364 buildings were damaged or destroyed. Few North Country disasters can compare in scope and intensity with the tornado of 1856. For decades into the future, it was used as a reference point for comparing other tragic events.”…

Cuomo would be very surprised.

Well that idiot took little time alienating me. This trucker has to drive in NY fairly often. Most often I go to places somewhere not too far off of the I-90 Thruway. I have always had a problem with their idle laws and lack of truck services and parking and their HUT sticker tax (Highway usage Tax, and the exorbitant amount they charge for the big truck to transit the toll roads. But since Gov. Cuomo said:
“Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”
Well this gun and bible clinging former SF soldier has not bought anything more than a thermos of coffee in that state since then and that is simply because it is darn near as necessary to me as the air I breath when driving a truck. It’s small potatoes but I would bet when diesel fuel is considered the total amount of business his state has lost from me is close $7,000 since he made that statement.
What the hell is it with that state? As I said I go there pretty frequently and during my travels I meet a fair number of people and for the most part they seem down to earth folks. Yet they elect the nuttiest wackos to run their state and NYC. Geez that idiot Mayor of NYC made his first priority after taking office the elimination of horse shit in Central park deposited during the iconic and popular carriages for hire there!
NYC and the immediate suburbs drown out the upstate vote.
Yet another demonstration of the well known fact that liberals have the attention span of a gnat.
Have you ever been really plagued by gnats?
The damn things don’t give up until you squash/spray/otherwise render them inert. Most libs can’t outlast a gnat before being distracted by the next great calamity.
Andrew Cuomo is a worse Gov. than his father Mario. Glad I am long gone from there.
New York just doesn’t get hurricanes either. Flash back to Nov. 2012 (Extratropical Sandy) . .
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo claimed: “When we built New York, we didn’t think about floods, about storms. We didn’t have hurricanes and floods. … Extreme weather is here to stay. Climate change is a reality. Political gridlock has held us back too long. … Maybe Mother Nature is telling us something. One time, two times, three times. There are places that are going to be victimized by storms. We know that now.”
Oct. 1960 – “Hazel Pounds N.Y with Vicious Winds; 18 Dead Counted in Dying Storm’s Battered Wake.” Hurricane Hazel, one of the country’s most dangerously erratic storms, rocked New York with 100 mph winds last night. . . It was the third hurricane to hit the northeast in six weeks.
On Sept. 21, 1938, a giant hurricane roared up the Eastern Seaboard, causing extensive damage and loss of life on Long Island and much of New England, not relenting until it had crossed into Canada. . The Cat 3 hurricane is estimated to have killed 700 people and caused damages, which, adjusted to today’s dollar, would equal $40 billion.
When we built New York, we didn’t have idiots like you, Andrew Cuomo.
Speaking of Andrew Cuomo (Clinton’s HUD Sec) – Father of the housing bubble and chief architect of the ground rules which led to the subprime crisis and the greatest recession . . do we really want the main stream media to continue to encourage him to run for POTUS?
I think not.
1972…Agnes.
When it made landfall, for the 2nd time, it was very close to NYC.
1975…Eloise
What was left of Eloise dumped massive amounts of rain in PA, NY, NJ and other states. Including LI and NYC in the flooding.
Let’s not forget Hurricane Gloria in 1985. JFK was hit with 85mph winds, the Battery recordeda 6.9 foot storm surge, and Central Park got 3.5 inches of rain.
New York’s largest hurricane was in 1821, and would have wiped out lower Manhattan except that it came at low tide.
. . or, as Pres Obama would say, “you didn’t build New York.”
For Cuomo and his ilk, the facts don’t matter. He made the statement and more people will hear his statement and take it at face value than will hear the correction or even remember hearing about tornadoes in NY. Will he get a public correction with the same number of people hearing it? No.
Summer typically skips New York as well.
