It Is Dead, Jim

A couple of weeks ago reader NikFromNYC declared this blog to be dead, because I didn’t censor differing viewpoints, and was butting heads with the orthodoxy on both sides of the debate.

Today marks the fourth day in the last ten with more than 50,000 page views, and today will finish with close to 200,000 page views.

Apparently there are a large number of people hungry for actual facts.

Nik doesn’t like to here views he disagrees with. I work with some people like that.

  2. SouthernLogic says:

Just saw the site on a link from drudge. I am bookmarking it as you have done a good job of tracking the hypocritical history of the climate movement. And you have many “inconvenient” articles based in facts.

  3. ozspeaksup says:

looking pretty lively for a dead blog 🙂
so many of us annoying sceptics keep sending your links around,
because..well its far past time when truth about data fudging really got out.

  4. PJ London says:

Thanks Steven, yours is one of the few sites that presents facts and allows the reader to make up their minds for themselves.
    Long may you continue.

For people hungry for actual facts….

On July 4, 1911, it was 105 F in Vernon, setting the record high temperature for Vermont, which has not been reached again despite 103 years of subsequent global warming.

In fact, 35 of the 50 USA states set their record temperatures prior to 1940.

Exactly! Keep up the great effort.

  7. Eliza says:

This site is deadly for AGW believers and organizations supporting the fraud. The facts put up here are killing AGW and it will not take long for MSM to start looking up the facts posted here. You’d better be prepared to secure your site extremely well.

    • Sadly the MSM is unlikely to start looking at the facts. Most of them have drunk the koolaid and will report the “news” from the AGW crowd without questioning the messenger. There is little evidence that we can expect that to change.

  8. Andrew McRae says:

I think Nik was pronouncing brain death rather than respiratory death. It’s some sort of Matrix-style “the body cannot live without the mind” model, where only minds with particular contents will be officially recognised as present. Particular cranks and kooks are disqualified.

Certainly the respiration is still strong. Tony’s grand exit from the closet and the recent tampering revelations probably helped a lot with traffic. The mere existence of particular cranks and kooks does not detract from the main message.

It’s life, Nik, but not as we know it.

    • _Jim says:

Some, who have dealt more directly with children, might call what he was doing was “throwing a tantrum”; he did not get his way so pouted, spread misinformation and castigated this blog’s host for his policy and procedure not just here BUT on other widely-read publicly-accessible blogs (we don’t know what was ‘passed’ as private traffic between parties originated by Nik) …

  9. gregole says:

Data is great, humor is great, comments are mostly great (I just ignore the kooks), this is a great blog.

    Keep it up!

  10. Cheshirered says:

Great progress for your blog Steve. Comments have noticeably rocketed, too. Deserved. As for those pesky facts: keep em coming.

  11. Bob F says:

With the increasingly Lukewarm tendencies at WUWT, this has become the most useful skeptical site.

I think you could really capitalize on dissatisfaction with Anthony Watts articles and opinions.

  12. darrylb says:

    Wow—I am impressed

  13. pyroimancer76 says:

Congratulations, Steven. I have always checked your blog more than once a day. For some time now I have moved it to the #1 position. You keep real data and raw data before the reader and you show what (feckless or fraudulent) adjustment has done to that data. In addition, history gets prominent billing. I send your posts on.

History, history, history. Without that perspective we can be too easily misled, especially if we tend to trust those in authority. I have always wondered how any geologists could be swayed by the “global warming” hokum because they know history with a vengeance. Earth and climate are always changing and one of the geologists’ roles is working as detective – how, why, when, where and “by whom” (what processes). It must be “no grants or academic positions” if they speak the truth(s), but they still should know them. Or is it that college education has become so corrupted with ideological non-science that they cannot see and will not look?

Keep up the good work. WUWT remains good enough, although the stable of ideologists rather than science-seekers continues to grow. I will know that it has become more open when Anthony posts some of your best work.

It is like a good restaurant where they have excellent food for a reasonable price and friendly service. You know they’re gonna make it. It doesn’t matter that other restaurants talked bad about you .Of Course if the only choice is excellent fried chips and a great hamburger eventually it will get boring.
Everything is interconnected in today’s corrupted world.

  15. Fred from Canuckistan says:

I now pronounce NikFromNYC dead, gone to meet his Maker, six feet under, ten toes up, bereft of life . . . . He’s snuffed it.

I understand he has nice hair, although not blue,

  16. EW3 says:

Feel like I’ve been watching history being made here over the past few weeks. All your hard work is paying off.

  17. Latitude says:

Anthony and the mods were accusing people of piling on, etc….and deleting their posts….
…but Nik had free reign to trash and lie about Steve all he wanted

    • _Jim says:

That may have actually served a purpose; Nik’s words will now stand forever (or until Lois ‘Harddisk failure’ Lerner becomes involved in the disk farm operations at the WordPress data center) and serve to tarnish his ‘brand’.

  18. davesix says:

Yes, but, “Belief creates the actual fact.”

  19. bleakhouses says:

When you wake up and turn on the lights the vermin go running. Steve and his zombies have turned on a lot of lights. Huzzah Steve.

  20. John Greenfraud says:

More power to Steve, keep giving the Greens a black eye, they’ve earned it

  21. I have some understanding for Nik but his syndrome is just an extreme case of a common reaction showing up here from time to time and regularly at WUWT. Some commenters there demand that Anthony changes the way he runs his blog or that certain “irrelevant” or “damaging” opinions are excluded. The global warming campaign is politics, not science, and the skeptical “big tent” unites people who disagree about other things. It’s the nature of politics to insist that “candidates” and parties conform to one’s views.

Moderating comments is a devil’s bargain and it lays claim to one’s life. I often wonder if Anthony would go down the same path again.

  22. Ginger says:

Tens of thousands of dead democrats vote in each national election.
My theory is that those same people are the ones currently visiting your website.
Can you prove me wrong on this?

  23. Eliza says:

I think you will find that WUWT will become more and more hardline with AGW and the organizations supporting it. In fact I would not be surprised that in 3 months it will practically look like this site “Real Science”LOL I used to go there first all the time now I come here and there later. The WUWT format is getting a bit boring and letting lukewarmers such as ZEKE non-sense posting there reduces its value as it supports the AGW, BEST drivel mostly.

  24. DEEBEE says:

Let’s face it, factually you have been displaying the data manipulation, for along time. IMO it was the characterization of this as “fabricated”, extreme as it might be in polite circles that seems to have led to acute interest . Guess the mass media likes the kabuki. And it was this word that Watts was choking on. Was it because he realizes that you could become a potential competition?

  25. Sean Cash says:

    (in reference to blog title)
All i know is if Captain Kirk as me to leave the ship… and i wasn’t a main character .. the answer would be HELL NO… !! ill take my chances in the cozy brig.

  26. Gamecock says:

How do you know the blog didn’t die, and is now in Blog Heaven? Isn’t 50,000 views a day what Blog Heaven looks like?

  27. A C Osborn says:

We just need a couple of MSM outlets to pick up on the story and a lot more people get to learn the truth by visiting here and WUWT to see what all the fuss is about, in this case as they say “any news, even bad news is good advertising”.

  28. gator69 says:

“The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”

  29. Bruce of Newcastle says:

Relentlessly putting out facts and data is the only real tactic that can work in a political environment where the climateers have vast amounts of money and political power.

Challenging the other side to debate is the cherry on top since they have to refuse knowing themselves they cannot win against the truth.

Meanwhile the world is getting cooler even as pCO2 continues to increase because the Sun is the biggest driver of global temperature, not CO2.

  30. I think one should distinguish between popular and credible. A Glenn Beck or an Ann Coulter or a Paul Krugman might be popular, but that doesn’t mean they are taken too seriously by any group outside their circle of groupies. Although, nonetheless, it may be a rather large fan club.

  31. Poptech says:

My main complaint is there are way too many posts a day.

  32. tom0mason says:

If NOAA does blog statistics –
“Looking at stevengoddard.wordpress.com; after we’ve adjusted infill data to estimate for the no data days, and homogenized the data across nearby blog-sites. The anomaly data for the number of unique commenters on this site show a drastic decline, continuing its declining trend.
It’s evern worse when we added the reduction for the inaccuracies of TOB… “
