In 1960, Eisenhower foresaw the possibility of a moron like Obama following him.
The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocation, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet in holding scientific discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.
– President Eisenhower 1960
Well, he was white.
Amazing…Ike predicted the rise of “Post – Normal” science, in which science is subverted to public policy…
Lysenkoism began in the late 1920s and formally ended in 1964 so Ike would be well aware of the problems caused by government/science collusion.
“formally ended” in front of TV cameras for the gullible in 1964.
Climategate showed us the ’64 TV news was a lie.
and the “Evil Empire Died” in front of TV cameras in 1990
Ike perhaps knew that Stalin’s little helpers in the US NAS and UK’s RS inserted falsehoods into the foundations of nuclear and solar physics fifteen years earlier, at the end of WWII.
This video shows Eisenhower’s speech and my awakening to its validity after Climategate.

I see a clinic full of cynics
Who want to twist the peoples’ wrist
They’re watching every move we make
We’re all included on the list
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
No nuclear the cowboy told us
And who am i to disagree
’cause when the madman flips the switch
The nuclear will go for me
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
I’ve seen the faces of starvation
But i just can not see the points
’cause there’s so much food here today
That no one wants to take away
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum, take away my right to choose
The lunatics have taken over the asylum, take away my point of view
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum, take away my dignity,
Take these things away from me
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum, take away my family,
Take away the right to speak
The lunatics have taken over the asylum take away my point of view,
Take away my right to choose
So true. The left wing nutcases have the asylum of academia. The MSM. Education, in college, and K-12. Not good.
And speaking of The Specials (your song was done “by a trio of ex-Specials”), here’s The Specials with “You better think about your future.” Like perhaps they are saying symbolically that we can’t let society be taken over by the leftist loons that will ruin our hopes for a great future. (Or not.)

Tip: The nuclear structure inverts at ~150 amu (atomic mass units)
The nucleus of atoms with less than ~150 amu has a core of n-p pairs and extra neutrons are on the surface.
The nucleus of atoms with more than ~150 amu has a core of neutrons and n-p pairs are on the nuclear surface. Atoms heavier than 150 amu emit pairs of n-p pairs (alpha particles) from the surface and their cores becomes increasingly likely to fission from neutron repulsion as the mass increases.
The cores of some planets like Jupiter, ordinary stars like the Sun, galaxies and the universe are also composed of neutrons.

With the exception of when our Founding Fathers (Oathkeepers) were at the helm, a profound comment about malfeasance has never been spoken from a US President. We should have listened to President Eisenhower and guarded-against the coercion (Chicago-Style) politics, the “revolving doors” into and out of the public trust positions where they make policy requiring “widgets”…then moving over to the “widget” making companies to take their jobs (kick-backs). Both parties in all levels of government do it, and corporate hedging in the form of food stamps, subsidized housing, medical care, the “free” Obama phones, the $7K/month to foster an illegal alien (explains the non-profit’s position on illegal immigration eh?),….etc. is no less immoral as it all comes out of the people’s money by statute/force. The internet is next; they will tax it like a phone “surcharge” and provide the non-paying people “free” internet with the money.
And Martha Stewart went to jail for what?
That man was truly visionary.
One of our last great presidents. I have little use for those who came after.
Ike was very underrated, both as a President and an intellectual. One of the great speeches of all time. Yes, there has been precious little to like about the ones that followed. One I liked is almost forgotten, Gerald Ford. He was a good man, a humble man and an actual fiscal hawk. It was a great tragedy for America when Carter beat him out.
Reblogged this on Climatism.
Holy crap! He was spot on.
I concur Eisenhower was both underestimated and under-appreciated.
What many forget is that Generals are great students of history, especially those of the WWI-WWII variety. Ike saw the writing on the wall regarding government money getting into the research science game – and the consequences of grants seeking political favor.
But I think the most relevant quote immedietely precedes the “gravely to be regarded” warning:
“Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.”
His linkage of “substitute for curiosity” with “new electronic computers” is absolutely the money quote. Computers have given rise to unfounded claims of accuracy/precision, unwarranted reliance on “models” rather than data, and the false imprimatur of “authority” for results from such computer modelling.
If only we had a few more Ikes in our history, those schooled at West Point.
This general point is incredibly important, IMO. And skeptics need to get much better communicating it. We need to be able to instantly explain what big science is really like, what academia is really like.
Many people, especially liberals, have serious issues on this topic. In their minds, scientists cannot be collectively corrupt. You know … even if they are.
Ah, Ike the warmonger–just look at this weapon system:
http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/interstate/homepage.cfm
There was a lot going on when the superhighway interstate system was made reality. Part of the issue was relieving the stranglehold Big Rail had on the nation’s transportation infrastructure. Then there was the powerful railroad workers unions having too much power–though they mostly voted Democratic. I don’t know why the DNC didn’t fight this initiative by a Republican president more successfully. Along with cheap air fares, the Interstate destroyed America’s rail system (itself an older government subsidy program). The Interstate had national security written all over it–and as a soldier I used America’s Interstate system on many military exercises. Sections of the Interstate were intended as dispersal fields for nuclear-armed jet bombers. The original plans were to install fall-out shelters in every freeway overpass and underpass–but different lobbies nixed that. Not everything worked out as originally planned.
Today’s political environment is backing Big Rail again–because using the Interstate system is too democratic (note the small “d”) and lets the little people have too much power–unlike when only a few rail barons had to be courted or intimidated. Just about anybody can use America’s road network–with very little surveillance by Big Brother. On the other hand, Congress keeps hinting that all public transportation has to adopt the passenger tracking systems of the airline industry “for reasons of public safety.”
“On the other hand, Congress keeps hinting that all public transportation has to adopt the passenger tracking systems of the airline industry “for reasons of public safety.”’
Hate to tell you but the ‘tracking systems’ are already here. A customer of mine a few weeks ago told me he could not get his brand new car out of the RDU airport underground parking garage because it would not start. Seems it has a GPS system that will not allow the car to start if it is not recieving the satellite signal….
Think about what that means when it comes to controling people.
It’s quite easy, really. They’ll tax you based on miles travelled in each state (they already do this to commercial vehicles). Vehicles with the correct computer & GPS will have it automatically filed, older vehicles will have to either install a GPS & a black box or fill out a log book. After that it will become fairly routine to issue tickets if you’ve sped, or turned right on red, or if the GPS didn’t think you came to a full & complete stop at that 4-way. Non-GPS equipped vehicles will simply be assessed a higher registration & road tax every year based on a lack of GPS issued tickets (I mean, we know you’re speeding & running red lights at the same rate as some fictional driver we created for our study on confirmation bias, so we’re just going to collect it up front).
Oh, & GPS + black box will prevent theft, so if you want to save $ on your (government mandated) insurance, you’ll have to have it installed.
Eventually only the super wealthy & the Amish will be able to escape constant surveillance.
Eisenhower may have suspected KAZUO KURODA’S SECRET
For fifty-seven years, from 1945 until 2002, world leaders did not know who had secret plans for building atomic bombs [1].
The nuclear geochemist that had the atomic bomb secrets, Professor Paul Kazuo Kuroda, was not interested in building atomic bombs.
In 1960 Kuroda assigned a research project that would uncover a greater “Top Secret” world leaders hid from the public after WWII: “The Origin of the Solar System and Its Elements.”
The ” Top Secret” is explained on page 3 of this recent paper [2]: The structure of the atomic nucleus inverts at ~150 amu (atomic mass units)
The nucleus of atoms lighter than ~150 amu contains a core of n-p pairs and extra neutrons are on the surface.
The nucleus of atoms heavier than ~150 amu has a core of neutrons and n-p pairs are on the nuclear surface. Atoms heavier than 150 amu emit pairs of n-p pairs (alpha particles) from the surface and their cores becomes increasingly likely to fission from neutron repulsion as the mass increases.
The cores of some planets like Jupiter, ordinary stars like the Sun, galaxies and the universe are neutrons-rich and release energy by neutron-emission of fission [2].
