There is science, logic, reason; there is thought verified by experience. And then there is California.
Edward Abbey
Last night California Governor Jerry Brown angrily blamed the California drought on Donald Trump, which seems just about as rational as believing that a witch turned him into a newt.
During the 1977 global cooling drought, which Brown called “the worst in recorded history” – he called for desalinization of seawater.

Three years later, California was flooding and he forgot about desalinization.

Governor Brown never built the desalinization plants, but he did spend $70 billion building a train which he thought would prevent droughts. And last night he bragged about how successful his carbon tax is.
Humans don’t get much stupider than California Governor Jerry Brown.
“Humans don’t get much stupider than California Governor Jerry Brown.”
Actually they do – all of the people who voted for this turkey over 4 decades !
Maybe, but giving Jerry Brown only Moron Of The Day is belittling and insulting. He’s been at it for so long he deserves at least Moron Of The Year once and an induction into the Moron Hall Of Fame.
I don’t seem to be able to remove it.
I didn’t realise the picture would be included – I thought it was the icon I was uploading.
Guess I’m one of those “Humans don’t get much stupider than California Governor Jerry Brown.” !
Strawberry Margarita in Las Vegas 2006.
I not that you take responsibility for your actions, something Politicians especially Democrats do not.
I noticed he took full responsibility for that oversized margarita. I like that in a man.
Nothing wrong with using desalination, you just need a decent fossil fuel fired power station to drive it. :-)
Send that fracked gas to Califoolia for desal.
Last I remember, Graphene was going to revolutionize desal plants and use 50% less energy.
Haven’t heard anything new for a while though.
Better yet, fix San Onfre’s steam generators and then use a desal plant as on off-peak load to keep the kettles running flat out, the way they’re designed to be run.
Sounds good.
Actually all you have to do is get the Isreali’s in to design the plants. Of course after the DemonRats Convention burned Isreali and American flags while waving the Palastinian Flag that might be a bit of a hard sell.
Here is the Jewish Progressive Media desperately trying to put lipstick on that pig.
Clinton condemns burning of Israeli flag “ Yeah, Sure and they just FORGOT to have USA flags on the stage until Trump pointed out the very bad optics…
You think it’s bad for you….I live here. Trapped with millions of people, some of them even citizens of the United States. As sad and it sounds, and I don’t like hearing that people around the world will suffer, I am looking forward to the grand solar minimum and global cooling just to shut the global warming alarmists up. Even then, they will blame the cooling on something man has done. Logic, so rare these days.
If I’m wrong, I’ll gladly own it. I doubt they will.
“I am looking forward to the grand solar minimum and global cooling” ?
No You don’t !
A [Grand Solar Minimum] would/will be beyond belief, Massive World Wide droughts (Good bye South West U.S.), Massive North/Central Northern Hemisphere (North of 45°) cold/snow/ice bringing much of North America to a halt 6 months out of the year, Extreme loss of Agricultural, which then (Quickly) leads to a huge loss of meat and meat byproducts, tremendous World Wide starvation (Possibly starting out as 100,000’s dead yearly early on, progressing to 1,000,000’s fairly quickly and then to 10,000,000’s of million World Wide deaths year after year) !
I love seeing the Progressive left eat crow all day and every day, but a Grand Minimum would effect EVERYONE, making Alaska and Canada uninhabitable, the same for Northern Europe and Russia !!
It is estimated that during the last Grand Solar Minimum, 1/4 of the Earth population died off !!!
And no one wants to see that…
I’ll take a “warm” globe every time !
Anyway, it would then be the fault of “climate change”.
This game is rigged by the crazy left as a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scam.
It is estimated that during the last Grand Solar Minimum, 1/4 of the Earth population died off !!!
And no one wants to see that…
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Well I do….
As long as it is the progressive parasites.
Unfortunately it is always the hardworking productive people that get screwed while the progressive parasites grab everything at the point of a gun if they can’t grab it through a con like Al Gore and his buddies just did these past decades.
“Humans don’t get much stupider than California Governor Jerry Brown” ?
Umm…
Yes the Do !
Isn’t it just “great” living in the Great State of California (SoCal [FightOn] to be exact), let’s see, what, “30” Million residents (40 Million counting the “illegals”, so let’s give them Driver’s Licenses, Perfect!) and considering that 65% + are certified Sons and Daughters of the “Thing that should not [Be]” whom would vote for the Devil (And soon they Will!) if given the chance but still see Governor [Moon-Beam] Brown as a “surrogate” to the above mentioned “Thing”, then one must ask themselves, “Who is the greater “idiot”, the elected idiot or the “idiots” who voted for the idiot in the first place ???
So You see that there are at least “17” million idiots just like “Moon-Beam” (27+ million if you include the “illegals”) residing in the Great State of California just as stupid (At least!) as Governor Moon-Beam, so always be careful when you count your chickens, arithmetic matters !!!
P.S. If the “current” cycle “forming” (Cooling, perhaps “severe” Cooling) truly flips over from the previous cycle which was a warm period (Meaning [Good Bye] to El Nino for approximately 15 – 20 years), then everyone will soon find out what the real meaning of California/Wesr Coast drought is, and it won’t be good…
Jerry Brown is not a moron. He is a very articulate propagandist.
NY Times, 1994:
“BEGINNING about 1,100 years ago, what is now California baked in two droughts, the first lasting 220 years and the second 140 years. Each was much more intense than the mere six-year dry spells that afflict modern California from time to time, new studies of past climates show. The findings suggest, in fact, that relatively wet periods like the 20th century have been the exception rather than the rule in California for at least the last 3,500 years, and that mega-droughts are likely to recur.”

Before mankind’s activities could have changed the climae:
“In 1861, farmers and ranchers were praying for rain after two exceptionally dry decades. In December their prayers were answered with a vengeance, as a series of monstrous Pacific storms slammed—one after another—into the West coast of North America, from Mexico to Canada. The storms produced the most violent flooding residents had ever seen, before or since.
“[…] One-quarter of the state’s estimated 800,000 cattle drowned in the flood, marking the beginning of the end of the cattle-based ranchero society in California. One-third of the state’s property was destroyed, and one home in eight was destroyed completely or carried away by the floodwaters.”

I read an article a few weeks ago that said there has been a persistent high-pressure system hovering over California and the Southwest for the last five years.
You can see a current view of the area here:

One question I have is, can a persistent high-pressure system last for over a hundred years at one location? That would explain the droughts, but it is hard to imagine that happenig considering how dynamic the atmosphere is. But, supposedly, we have a five-year-long example over California.
