They are probably on statins (just guessing) to “lower their cholesterol”, which really causes all kinds of havoc (people with high cholesterol have less disease as the studies show). I would like to know their diet. I truly try to help people who follow this line of thinking and the “low fat” paradigm, but with some people it’s difficult to get through. The politically correct nutritionists and dieticians love to claim cholesterol in food is somehow harmful. Scientific studies on heart and health show cholesterol protects against disease, it doesn’t cause disease (unless it’s oxidized and rancid, like in powdered milk, for example). Trump is a living example. Even though it defies their logic, they keep banging their head against the wall. Probably something to do with profits in the pharma and fast-food industries.

I mention this because I have found that although I have zero problem with any kind of meat, most veggies and fruit produce an allergic reaction of varying degree.
Grains are something I just can not eat without major problems.
That’s right, cows eat plenty of insects along with their grasses. Insects could replace meat. They provide valuable fat soluble vitamins required for good health. We could live on insects and many cultures do. Not sure I’m ready for crickets or grasshoppers, but I do like insects of the sea, like shrimp!
Insects are eaten all over the world because the people eating them can’t afford beef and pork on a regular basis. That doesn’t mean we need to eat them in the U.S. In fact, there is no reason for us to eat them when high quality protein and fat are available from farm animals.

Cholesterol’s relationship to CVD is much more complicated than you make out. There is HDL and LDL. The ratio matters more than total of both. Most blood cholesterol of both types is manufactured in the liver, and does NOT come from foods of whatever type. Statins work on in liver, not in gut. There are many confounding factors, like inflammatory responses to arterial plaques, total dietary fat intake, obesity, and genetics.
Correct. My Mom had an auto accident that injured her pancreas so she could not digest fats. She was put on such a low fat diet she went into ‘rabbit starvation’ with the fatty sheaths on the nerve disintegrating. Despite this her cholesterol was sky high.

I’m not a doctor, but HDL and LDL are just the “bus” cholesterol takes to get to it’s location. Cholesterol is just an alcohol molecule that hitches a ride. HDL is the bus that takes cholesterol back to the liver to be recycled. LDL is not “bad”, it is the ambulance going to the accident. If it’s elevated it probably means the body is trying to heal or responding to a stress or wound. Heart disease is not caused by saturated fats from animals, it has more to do with other factors, including refined carbs, deficiencies or imbalances of certain minerals and vitamins, like magnesium and B12. Hearts favorite food is saturated fat, palmitic and stearic fatty acids (Dr. Mary Enig, lipid researcher). Um, statins work wherever the enzyme they inhibit exists. Yes, the liver is one such place, but they also inhibit cholesterol synthesis in the brain and skeletal muscle.
Statins have their place, for these can keep local inflammatory cholesterol synthesis from getting out of hand and creating local excessive oxygenated forms from the local superoxide dismutase, peroxidases and others.
Are they over used? Yes. Why? Conflation of blood levels when it is local tissue levels and conditions that matter.
People may not know or remember this, but in the 50s, atherosclerosis was considered to be a consequence of inflammatory conditions (think the big streptococcal infection related scarlet fever and rheumatic fever (my uncle, who is the sole living relative on my mom’s side, got rheumatic fever and had heart damage from it). [Quick aside, remember streptokinase, the clot buster? Consider that for a moment.] I had scarlet fever but never got rheumatic fever because my parents and grandparents had me shot full of penicillin whenever I had a strep throat (which was ever year).
One of the things that happens in systemic inflammatory conditions is deposition of complement in the blood vessels, particularly where they branch. The local damage recruits the immune system locally, enhancing the effects of the deposited complement. So, you can see one possible explanation for the notion that cardiovascular disease is a consequence of inflammation, generally.
Fast forward a generation. Strep is still common but the nephritis and scarlet fever and rheumatic fever wasn’t as common. The emphasis moved away from inflammation to other things. No, antibiotics did not do this. What changed was the strains of streptococcus. Why isn’t that clear, unless some good studies have been written lately.
LDL/HDL ratios? I think they are meaningless for most people. Some, sure. [Disclaimer, I worked in a pathology lab that did ultracentrifugation to separate the blood lipoproteins by density and used colorimetric methods to measure the levels.] Total serum cholesterol, likewise, is meaningless for most people. Some, sure.
My family also has a history of various auto-immune diseases; but for general allergies, not so much. IgG, IgM, IgE, IgA, IgD, these antibody families and a host of other immune system factors and the gene families that code for them and regulate them matter more, in my opinion.

I love Trump’s immigration plan. If you want to come over here, you have to openly demonstrate that you have never been involved in any way with a terrorist organization, that you reject the “Jihadist” parts of the Koran. I have listened to a lot of Donald Trump’s speeches. He really connects with the average American because he understands our concerns. This is why he gets crowds in the five to ten thousand range when Hitlery is doing good to get a couple hundred, mostly paid, attendees.
People who know him call him the Blue Collar Billionaire because he was raised in construction and rather talk to cabbies and carpenters than politicians. His kids are just as comfortable driving a big cat (D10 caterpillar) as they are a car because he understands the need to know a business from the ground up. It is also why Trump is plain speaking and sometimes a bit salty when talking to ordinary Americans. He has also cut many international deals so he has a lot more top level negotiating skills than Hitlary.
What I find encouraging is the fact Trump will LISTEN to people from janitors to VPs and he is very very good at seeing diamonds in the rough. This means he will do a great job at picking the correct people for his administration. Picking the correct people is the most important attribute of a successful executive and Trump has shown he has that attribute.
No wonder Trump has the Parasitic Class in DC peeing in their britches. The ordinary Americans that gave rise to the Tea Party finally have a real leader the parasites can not subvert. One who also appeals to the union workers the Democrats thought they owned.

I don’t like comparing anyone to Reagan, as he had his own unique style and way of working within the establishment. But in terms of the major themes of lower taxes, fewer oppressive regulations, security, law and order, trade, and putting Americans first, I think you’ll find them very similar.
I am hoping Trump is not as naive as Reagan. He certainly has a better knowledge of economics.
Reagan was classically trained in economics and sociology (fascinating given he earned this in 1932!) from Eureka College and was a small town boy. Reagan stayed his hand. He may have been impressed by Terrell Bell and the “Nation at Risk” report. Donald Trump has the benefit of hindsight so I know he means it when he promises to close or curb the US Department of Education. That alone is sufficient reason for me to vote for him instead of Hillary Clinton.
Maybe that report swayed Reagan some, but I think politics mattered more. Remember, the Ds controlled the House throughout and the Senate for part of his two terms. I would not be surprised if Moynihan didn’t weigh in on the Ed Dept., too.
