How bad the fake news business has become. The Tamp Bay Times just had an editorial that claimed, the sea level rise was so bad that they would be measuring sea level rise in feet not inches in the Tampa area and people were concerned about the future of Florida. They based that from a group call “Tampa Bay Climate Science Advisory Panel” who claimed that the tide gauge at St. Petersberg has increased 7.8 inches since the gauge was installed in 1946.

I checked with NOAA’s Tide and Current website and found that St.Petersberg tide gauge has shown only a 2.7 MILLIMETER rise per year since 1946. A quick calculation of that indicated about a 2 centimeter in total rise in the 70 years since it was installed. which is less than an inch and no sudden rise in the rate in the last 10-20 years.

If a modern editorial board of a newspaper can’t even do the basic fact checking on this issue what else can’t they take a few minutes to fact check.

    • Martin says:

      2.7 mm/year over 70 years gives 189 mm or 19 cm or 7.4 inches
or 0.9 feet in 100 years
      But no acceleration visible.

Write a letter to the Editor, seriously. If we don’t all constantly speak up and point out the BS, as Tony does, then the fake science wins.

      A quick calculation:
      2.7mm/year over 70 years gives 189mm or 19cm or 7.4 inch
or 0.9 feet in 100 years – like on NOAA’s webpage
      what’s the problem?

Sorry, my error was not describing the time frame for the 3/4 inch rise in sea level (as that was per decade, my brain goes faster then my fingers can type). A continuing sea level rise of 3/4 inch per decade does not get to feet in 80 years.

  2. “NASA Knew there was no Warming, but lied anyway…“

How many years, if ever.. before NY Times publishes this Headline??

So, Exxon were Global Cooling Denires! LOL

Both Editions require me to be in a flat out position to concentrate on Research for Tampa Bay & Long Island Sound(LIS) where they have spent a lot of the 72 years.
Can you guys send me a link to portals? LIS & Tampa Bay have some things is common. In some ways LIS & Gulf of Mexico have some commonalities we can consider. Mississippi & Connecticut are large contributors. Somewhat East/West Orientation…..especially LIS.
Keep up the REAL SCIENCE EFFORTS! God Bless

    Worst song ever

“I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way”

    Becomes worst policy ever

The New York Times article you referenced (“U.S. and Soviet Press Studies of a Colder Arctic”) is available on the Times web site. It also says:

“The American plan, which is being developed by the University of Washington with support from the National Science Foundation, is known as AIDJEX, for Arctic Ice Dynamics Joint Experiment. An area of the pack ice some 300 miles square would be studied intensively.”

If you look up this project, you can find it documented on the NOAA website (See https://nsidc.org/noaa/aidjex). However, you will find no mention of the original intent of the program, according to the New York Times, which was to “determine why the Arctic climate is becoming more frigid, why parts of the Arctic sea ice have recently become ominously thicker and whether the extent of that ice cover contributes to the onset of ice ages.”

Proving these quacks use Junk science is not enough. There are lots of believers in the religion of Global warming. What might sway the public opinion is to show how much the promoters profit from this propaganda. Pick a “scientist” and show how he/she is enriched from GW junk sciece
