And we do know that Montana’s flooding was caused by record rainfall and by runoff from heavy snowfall. Though climate deniers (some of them funded by Exxon) love to point to freak snowstorms as “proof” that the planet isn’t warming, the opposite is often true: In some places, the warmer the air, the more water vapor accumulates in the atmosphere and the more moisture comes down in the form of rain or snow.
Brilliant research on the part of the LA Times. The entire Pacific Northwest has been far below normal temperatures this year, and the last three months was the coldest April-June in over 50 years.

Hey, there’s an even better correlation between how many layers I wear…….and snow fall
You probably think that the L.A. Times had Naomi Klein doing an article about the weather in Montana because she has some “scientific” climate expertise. Well she does have some climate change credentials in the fact that she is a pedal to the metal anti-capitalist left wing whack job. She’s an author and “social activist” by trade. Somehow I don’t think that the resident trolls will disparage her scientific bonifides.

Sound like a typical media birdbrain. Sorry about the insult to birds.
Facts are irrelevant to people like Naomi Klein. Unfortunately a lot of people in the general public believe her nonsense, and few bother to check what the temperatures actually are.
Steve — What you don’t seem to get that Klein does is that warm temperatures of recent years left an imprint that cause more atmospheric water vapor this year despite the cold temperatures, and so caused the flooding this year. This is from the Seventh Law of Thermodynamics; I bet your introductory exposure to Thermo stopped at the Third Law.
(Do I need to say /sarc?)
What about the snow in Montana in July? Must have been cause by fossil-fuel induced warmcold.
