Two fishermen lost in Siberia are suspected of killing and eating their friend in order to survive, it was claimed last night.
A fourth man is also missing, leading to fears that he, too, was murdered and cannibalised.
Alexander Abdullaev, 37, and Alexei Gradulenko, 35, were plucked to safety by a rescue helicopter having survived temperatures lower than minus 30C three months after embarking on their fishing trip.

Wouldn’t be the first time in the Arctic. The Coppermine Expedition of 1819–1822 had as its goal the exploration of the northern coast of Canada was led by Lieutenant John Franklin Royal Navy. The expedition was plagued by poor planning, bad luck and unreliable allies. Eleven of the twenty strong party died amid accusations of murder and cannibalism before the survivors were rescued by native people of the Yellowknife tribe, who had previously given them up for dead.

Cannibalism in the Arctic seemed to dog Franklin as members of his expedition of 1845-48 to find the North-West Passage reputedly also resorted to cannibalism after they had abandoned their ships.
