Assault weapons that can fire numerous times in seconds are designed for only one thing: killing large numbers of people. The military and law enforcement officers need that ability; ordinary law-abiding citizens do not.
We have been there and done that.
The author is a complete idiot. The reason that tens of millions of Americans own these weapons is because they are an excellent deterrent. You are more likely to be killed by a hammer than by a rifle in the US.
The left is trying to return humanity to the darkest times of history.
Steve, great reminder.

What good fortune for governments that the people do not think.

Mormons included?
The newspaper is not run by Mormons.
I once worked with someone that lived through the Nazi-German occupation of Norway. He had some sage advice and viewpoints due to his life experience. One point he made was that he should be able to own weapons that were at least as good as the what police were supplied with.
The police have no obligation to defend anyone from a mob of rioters. Their main objective is to protect society as a whole. Individuals may be saved if it is convenient. Looking at Obama’s flagrant disregard for economic stability and penchant for demonizing those with opposing viewpoints, I think I need the ability to kill at least as many people as the police do.
If the police and military are the only ones with arms, we are subjects of the ruling class.
BTW, I see there has been another Brad commenting here so I added DXT to my name for clarity. I’m a fellow archer and my DXT is the best bow I’ve owned so far.
It is great having a bow that you love. I have been using an old 80# Pearson I got on Craigslist for $75. Quite a workout!
I got my DXT a few years ago and closed my grouping by several inches @ 30 yards. I started with lower cost gear until I got the hang of it and then splurged. Unfortunately, a good new bow is about the same price as a good firearm.
I like going to 3-D matches. You get to walk through the woods and some clubs have quite unique and challenging presentations. Once you get past the days of losing arrows, it gets to be a blast.
Nice!. I have gotten used to the 80 pound bow and 350+ fps coming off it. It is a bit addictive, but takes its toll on my shoulder!
If it takes a toll on your shoulder, the draw length may be too long for you and can lead to rotator-cuff problems. Stop by an archery shop for advice. If you are close, try adding a release loop on your string which also gives you a consistent point to apply your release.
