A couple of weeks ago the NYT had a lead story about global warming wrecking this year’s Iditarod, due to warm temperatures, rain and no snow.

Date: February 14, 2013 8:06 amThe New York Times featured an article February 5, 2013 with the attention getting title “Warm Weather Forces Changes Ahead of Iditarod Race (Mary Pilon).”
Race Marshal Mark Nordman returned my phone call. “Trail’s great, lots of snow, all the way to Nome. In fact, we might have more than average on the south side of the Alaska Range (check out the Iditarod trail map and note Skwetna, Finger Lake, and Rainy Pass checkpoints). The only place that could be short is by Rohn checkpoint, and that’s always a place with little snow.”

yes, and once they realize that there is plenty of snow…goal posts will move and the next article the NYT writes will be about how cruel and unkind they are to the animals in the Iditarod…Courtesy of people in Ivory Towers…
Yeah that sounds about right, but on another note didn’t they blame climate change err global warming for too much snow a season err Two back, making the race too difficult for the dogs???? 😆
For a cyclists view of the trail conditions check out http://www.alaskaultrasport.com/latest_news.html — the web site for the “Iditabike” which runs the same trail as the Iditarod but starts the week before.
Last year they had so much snow no cyclist could complete the 1000 miles.
