USA Today and the National Weather Service are, as expected, spreading wild misinformation about the Ellicott City flood. They are claiming 6.5 inches of rain was a 1-in-1000 year event.

This is complete nonsense.  Ellicott City has a marker in town showing much larger floods from 1868, 1972, 1923, 1975, and 1952.

Two years ago, the area got 12 inches of rain. I don’t think 2014 was a thousand years ago.

Four years ago, the area got almost 13 inches of rain.

During the 1940s, nearby locations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia received much heavier rainfalls in much shorter periods of time. In 1942, Smethport, PA received more than four times as much rain in the same amount of time.

This climate fraud goes on day in and day out.  And when called out on it, the press and scientists never retract.

The 1868 flood in Ellicott City was much larger than this weekend’s flood. It washed houses away.

The latest Ellicott City scam is from the White House, claiming that heavy precipitation events have increased greatly since 1958.

This is absolutely true.

But why did they pick 1958 for the start date instead of 1868? Because it was the lowest year in the climate record. Had they started in the 19th century, there would be no change in the frequency of heavy precipitation events. They cherry picked a start date with the explicit intent of deceiving the public as to its meaning.

This is the Ellicott City Assembly of God, where I attended church when I lived in Columbia, MD.

I used to attend the Assembly of God church in Elicott City, Maryland – where they had a massive flood over the weekend. The downtown area is a flood disaster waiting to happen, as you can see in the Google Earth image below .

Thirty years ago, the front page of the Chicago Tribune had a feature article discussing how Illinois temperatures were plummeting, even as CO2 is increasing.

The frequency of hot summer afternoons in Illinois has also plummeted over the past 115 years.

And across the US, the frequency of hot days has also plummeted.

There is not one shred of empirical evidence to support the claims in this University of Chicago/Forbes article. But fraud is the gold standard for climate science.

Two years ago, the White House issued a report by 300 leading climate scientists and experts, saying that heat and drought would devastate the US Midwest.

During the two years since the report was released, most of the US has been much wetter than normal.

And the frequency of hot days has plummeted in the Midwest over the past 55 years.

Climate experts know nothing about the climate. They are paid political hacks working for the White House.

1. You aren’t allowed to dispute junk science, because people were killed by Tropical Storm Sandy
2. You aren’t allowed to discuss Islamic terrorism, because a Muslim US soldier was killed by Islamic terrorists in Iraq.
3. Trump wants to divide America, because he wants to make it easier to enforce existing immigration laws by building a wall along the border.
4. Progressives hate guns and walls, unless the guns and walls are protecting Democratic politicians.

The heatwave of 2016 has been notable in that so far this summer the area of the US to reach 100F (38C) has been the lowest on record. During the 1930’s, more than 70% of the US reached 100F every year, but now less than 30% of the US typically reaches 100F

During 1936, only New England and Florida were spared 100 degree weather.

Government climate scientists say that hot days are becoming more common in the US, because they are paid to push political agendas by politicians in Washington DC.

The odds of winning the lottery are millions to one, yet people win all the time. Climate scientists would describe this as a “million year event.”

The fallacy is pretty obvious. The odds of any one person winning the lottery are small, but the odds of someone out of millions of people winning, are quite good.

Climate scientists often say that a very heavy point rainfall is a 1,000 year event, even though very heavy rainfalls occur quite often. The odds of any one location receiving a very heavy rain during the course of a year may be small, but the odds of some location receiving a very heavy rain are pretty high. Scientists then run to that location, call it a thousand year rainfall, and blame you.

Our friends are parked waiting for the ice to melt in the Northeast Passage.

At current melt rates, it will be at least 10 weeks before the Northeast Passage opens. But the sun is getting lower every day and melt rates will start dropping in the next week or two.

There is very thick ice (1.5m) along the shoreline which they hope to traverse.
