Dr. James E. Hansen of the Goddard Space Flight Center’s Institute for Space Studies said research by his institute showed that because of the ”greenhouse effect” that results when gases prevent heat from escaping the earth’s atmosphere, global temperatures would rise early in the next century to ”well above any level experienced in the past 100,000 years.” Steeper Rise in Next Century

Average global temperatures would rise by one-half a degree to one degree Fahrenheit from 1990 to 2000 if current trends are unchanged, according to Dr. Hansen’s findings. Dr. Hansen said the global temperature would rise by another 2 to 4 degrees in the following decade.

PICKING up where a high-school chemistry class might end, ”Nova,” the public-broadcasting science series, offers the nonmatriculating viewer an advanced course in worrying. The cause of the concern is all the carbon dioxide that’s being pumped into the industrialized and motorized air. The hour long broadcast is called ”The Climate Crisis: The Greenhouse Effect,” at 9 tonight on Channel 13.

The conclusion, conveyed with great authority by several big-league climatologists from government and private research organizations, is terrible: by the year 2000, the atmosphere and weather will grow warmer by several degrees and life – animal, plant, human – will be threatened.

In 1907, the US Weather Bureau discussed tampering with meteorological data.

They described it as a crime, and said that it was up to the “independent press” (i.e. bloggers) to repress all “cheats and hoaxes” and  “defend the truth and the best interests of the whole nation as against the self-interest of a few”

Certain facts about Earth’s climate are not in dispute:

The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century.2Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments flown by NASA. Increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response.

This is complete nonsense. If the absorption of relevant wavelengths is already saturated, there is no mechanism for the Earth to warm in response to “increased levels of greenhouse gases”

Ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in solar output, in the Earth’s orbit, and in greenhouse gas levels. They also show that in the past, large changes in climate have happened very quickly, geologically-speaking: in tens of years, not in millions or even thousands.

This is also complete nonsense. Ice cores show that CO2 levels respond to changes in ocean temperatures. They lag temperature by about 800 years.

The only thing that is not in dispute is that these people are incompetent scientists.

Shortly after the first moon landing, Hurricane Camille devastated the Gulf Coast with sustained winds in excess of 190 MPH. This apartment complex disappeared during the storm.

The Northwest Passage is not going to open up this year. A week from now, Pond Inlet is forecast to be below freezing.

10-Day Temperature Outlook

Every day driving to work In Maryland, I see a dozen or so drivers who are completely insane. They weave in and out of traffic at high speed, tailgate and engage in behavior which threatens everyone else on the road.

The majority of drivers tailgate and they often collide. My commute gets blocked by a major pile up about once every two weeks. People get killed, or badly injured.

Every day our safety is threatened by mentally ill progressives in their vehicles, who worry incessantly about the almost non-existent threat of their being shot by a gun.

In order to check a fact, you have to have a fact to check. Without disclosure of who gave her this misinformation, everything else she says is meaningless, and appears to be covering up something.

No one in the press has seen fit to ask her where her “fact” came from. What a pathetic state of affairs.

In case I have to spell it out for anyone, this story is not about Obama’s birthplace. It is a story about Obama and his literary agents spreading misinformation for 17 years – right up until he announced his candidacy for president.

There was almost no change in Arctic sea ice cover between August 24 and August 25. Red shows loss, green shows gain.

There are a series of cyclones forming over the ice, which will spread it. Temperatures have also dropped to well below freezing, so new ice will begin to form within a week.

Al Gore and John Kerry say that the Arctic will be ice-free this year.

Thermometers show a 60 year cycle US summer cooling and heating. Ten years of sharp cooling, followed by 50 years of gradual warming. The graph below shows two sharp cooling periods from 1895 to 1905, and again from 1950 to 1960. It also shows two warming periods from 1910 to 1950, and from 1960 to 2010.

The net temperature change over the period is zero. There has been no warming or cooling during US summers since the start of records in the 1890s. The 1930’s were by far the hottest decade.

But NOAA isn’t interested in the actual temperature record. Their purpose is convince people the planet is warming. So they “adjust” the temperature data (red line below) to create the appearance of a non-existent warming.

In doing so, they lose all of the useful information about US climate. The incredibly hot Dust Bowl becomes cooler than the cool present, and the only thing people are supposed to notice is that summers are getting hotter.

They accomplish this through a spectacular hockey stick of data tampering – shown below.

But it is much worse than it seems. Daily average temperatures are strongly affected by UHI. If we look only at maximum temperatures, it becomes obvious that US summers are on a long term cooling trend, and are currently among the coolest on record.

Here in Maryland, it probably is the coolest on record. We did not have a summer this year. A late spring, which has transitioned directly to autumn.

The NCDC adjustments destroy all meaning of the temperature record, and are used to produce political documents, not scientific ones.
