Mosher says that GISS is an accurate representation of their set of stations. If that is true, the only sensible explanation for the changes in GISS over time, is that the set of stations has been altered to remove stations which were warmer in the past.
Either way, GISS is complete garbage.
But then of course, there are US temperatures – which are being altered right in front of our eyes.

Nine US HCN stations set both their all-time record minimums in February 1936, and their all-time record maximums in July, 1936. Two of those stations had a spread of 170 degrees that year.
