Milwaukee Journal Wants To Control The Weather Through Taxes

OUR VIEW | CLIMATE CHANGE

Time to do something about the weather

Options have been laid out: A tax on carbon as suggested by former Secretary of State George Shultz and others is one idea. The Save Our Climate Act, for example, would have required industry to pay a steadily rising fee on carbon pollution and given much of the revenue back to households to cushion against rising prices.  But there are other options, too. Cap-and-trade is a policy that conservatives once favored and then reviled. It deserves another look.

Congratulations James Hansen and Michael Mann. You have achieved things which Osama bin Laden could only hope for in his wildest dreams. You have abused your inside position of trust in a completely unprecedented fashion, and turned a great nation into a bunch of driveling idiots.

UN Climate Chief Hoping That Sandy Will Convince Americans To Give Up Their Freedom

Because we had a hurricane, the UN is hoping that America will bend over and adopt UN domination of our lives.

Christiana Figueres, who leads the United Nations negotiations to get governments to reduce carbon emissions in the world, regards Hurricane Sandy as “yet another wake-up call” for Americans to get on board with her climate change policy.

“Yes, I certainly do think that this is yet another wake-up call,” Figueres said of Hurricane Sandy to Yale Environment 360 in an interview published by The Guardian.”I did hear President Obama say quite categorically in his acceptance speech that he is not going to have a future that is threatened by increasing warming . . . I do think that this mirrors the growing awareness in the United States. So I do think that Sandy has contributed to this. Is it the tipping point? That remains to be seen.”

This is a centralized transformation that is taking place because governments have decided that they need to listen to science. So it’s a very, very different transformation and one that is going to make the life of everyone on the planet very different.

Two of the ten deadliest Atlantic hurricanes occurred during the Revolutionary War. Fortunately our forefathers were nothing like the feeble minded fools currently occupying the White House and Congress.

Dirty Weather In 1888

The US was hit by two of the five worst snowstorms in history during early 1888.

1. The Great Blizzard of 1888 (the Great White Hurricane)
March 11 – 14, 1888
Eastern United States

Snowfall of 40 to 50 inches was recorded over New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut as sustained winds created drifts as much as 50 feet tall. Total deaths are thought to have exceeded 400. Most of the cities on the eastern seaboard were shut down for days, if not weeks.

5. The Schoolhouse Blizzard (aka The Schoolchildren’s or Children’s Blizzard)
January 12, 1888
Great Plains States

This blizzard gets its name from the many schoolchildren who died when trapped in one room school houses. More than 230 are said to have died.

The tragedy of this storm was created by its suddenness, and by the warm conditions that immediately preceded it. Lulled into complacency by a balmy day, people ventured from their houses to do chores and head to town. Many were improperly dressed. Then, an arctic front crashed into moisture laden air from the Gulf of Mexico, bringing sudden drops of temperature to as low as -40 F, as well as large amounts of snow.

This was the first of two major blizzards in 1888.

The Schoolhouse Blizzard brought temperatures of -20 F as far south as the Gulf Coast, and was the only time the Colorado River in Texas has frozen over.

A Tale Of Two Countries

It was the best of engineers. It was the worst of scientists.

In the year 1900, Galveston Texas was hit by a 145 MPH hurricane and storm surge which wiped out most of the city and killed 10,000 people.

How did they deal with it?

Editorial : When Government Makes Its Mind Up To Do Something

Campaigners say Obama’s re-election, superstorm Sandy and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg’s endorsement – predicated on climate change – put climate change back on the domestic agenda.

Opinion polls suggest public concern in the US about climate change was rising even before Sandy. Campaigners argue Obama needs to engage on climate, if he wants to safeguard his legacy as president.

“President Obama’s re-election provides him with an opportunity to seal his legacy as a truly transformative leader, but he needs to address climate change,” said Andrew Steer, president of the World Resources Institute. “I think history will judge any president from now onwards not to have succeeded if he doesn’t really grapple with this issue seriously.”

Obama under pressure to show Doha he is serious on climate change | Environment | guardian.co.uk

It is time for Obama to get serious about stopping hurricanes and heat waves. If he is half  as successful at bad weather prevention as he has been at deficit reduction and job creation, then we should expect to see four more years of nothing but unmitigated high cost bullshit out of Washington.

It is wonderful having a government controlled by, and elected by, complete morons.
