David Viner 2004 : “Children Just Won’t Know What A Competent Scientist Is”

“Unfortunately, it’s just getting too hot for the Scottish ski industry,” said David Viner, of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. “It is very vulnerable to climate change; the resorts have always been marginal in terms of snow and, as the rate of climate change increases, it is hard to see a long-term future.”

  1. As of this moment, those ski resorts are open with several feet (250cm!) of snow on the ground, and better skiing conditions in Scotland than in Finland and a number of other countries in the area.

Your other report shows excellent conditions in Scotland, with a record season upon them the best since the wonderful snow season of 2010:

    • Jimbo says:

Some ski resorts are hoping to be open in June of this year because of the excellent snow. This is simply another Viner fail.

“The snowsports season is expected to continue into May with ski areas remaining open as long as this is viable, ie as long as there are skiers in sufficient numbers,” said a statement we have received from Ski Scotland.

“All five mountain ski areas have excellent snow conditions, unprecedented for the time of year, which are expected to continue for the foreseeable future.”

  2. Dave N says:

“A spokesman said: “We have reluctantly come to this conclusion, but believe skiing can continue at both Glencoe and Glenshee under different owners.””

Apparently different owners would make the snow come back. The whole thing appears to be about financial mismanagement and nothing to do with changing climate.
