Death Spiral Update : No Change In Arctic Ice For 10 Years

In 2007, Nobel laureate Al Gore said the Arctic is “falling off a cliff” and the ice will be gone by 2014.  Like all good climate experts, he based his projection on six weeks worth of data.

Arctic sea ice is right where it was 10 years ago.

Former US Vice President Al Gore cited Professor Maslowski’s analysis on Monday in his acceptance speech at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo.

Last September 21, as the Northern Hemisphere tilted away from the sun, scientists reported with unprecedented distress that the North Polar ice cap is “falling off a cliff.” One study estimated that it could be completely gone during summer in less than 22 years. Another new study, to be presented by U.S. Navy researchers later this week, warns it could happen in as little as 7 years.

The last two years look an awful lot like the several years right before that huge drop in 2007. I realize two years does Not make for a trend, but, can’t help but wonder if Arctic ice isn’t going to wobble about in that area for a few more years… and then begin to climb again, towards it’s next peak.

If the North Polar ice cap is “falling off a cliff, then this

is probably why the rats on the USS CAGW are bailing. sarc off. I particularly like this from the story
““Polar bear biologists were finding some bears quite thin and found a population decline,” she said, which they attributed to melting summer ice caused by global warming.

“But the biologists were not there to see the thick [spring] ice. All they saw was thin bears,” she pointed out. “They blamed the poor condition of the bears on summer ice, instead of acknowledging that it was likely the condition of the ice in the spring that was the cause of the problem.”

And that is what “Polar Bear threatened regulation” dreams are made of.

  3. That’s a buy signal if I’ve ever seen one. GO LONG!

OMG, the internet is the cause of 1 million square km of ice melt. Luckily it appears to be a one time thing.

I will give Gore credit for doing the modern equivalent of alchemy. He turned BS into gold. There’s no one who’s financially benefited more from a Nobel Peace Prize than he has.

North Polar ice cap is “falling off a cliff.”

Obviously, choice of metaphor is not one of Al’s strengths.

One interesting development is that young hikers who don’t much want to work a real job can get funding to hike the Arctic Sea, if they blather the correct hornswoggle, The clever ones get funding, and now supply us with pictures, as they hike the Arctic Sea, of rather impressive ice-thickness north of Canada. (Forgive the self-promotion, but I feature a few of their pictures and links to their sites towards the end of my current post at: http://sunriseswansong.wordpress.com/2014/04/16/arctic-sea-ice-melt-resurrection-or-zombie/ )

I’m not sure how thick the ice was, north of Canada, ten years ago, but it currently it is much thicker than I’ve seen it in the past four years.

One young con-artist adventurer started out from Canada to the North Pole, took a serious look at the jumble of ice he expected would be flat, and aborted the entire expedition.

I do admire the audacity of youth at times. They have balls, but often also know when to tuck their tail between their legs and bail out. It doesn’t take all that much convincing, and a herd of Alarmists could become a herd of Skeptics.

    • Truthseeker says:

Well a couple of middle-aged men in a Toyota Hilux drove to the North Pole a few years ago. They filmed it – “Top Gear – Polar Special”. Youth of today – no stamina.

      • Caleb says:

They actually drove to the magnetic pole, which is south of 80 degrees north. However beyond doubt it was a wonderful promotion for Toyota, with the added benefit of really pissing Greenpeace off.

  7. Andy Oz says:

If any more arctic ice melts, WW3 will start according to the CFR.
It’s obvious that Putin doesn’t really want the Ukraine. He wants Greenland!!
