Ice cover is more than double what it was on this date in 1979

  1. In the end it will all just melt away quite suddenly.

  2. The Iconoclast says:

I have a concern that maybe we really are entering into a new ice age but we won’t realize it for years because of all the manipulation of the records done in order to claim warming.

    • Ernest Bush says:

Maybe not that long. A couple more winters like the last one with more cold and snow records being set and cool rainy summers will make it very hard to keep up the fiction. Especially if we keep the same blocking high over Southern California, a weather pattern that quite well matches the footprint of ice age glaciers.

      • Send Al to the Pole says:

Bastardi says the pattern of weak Modoki El nino suggests exactly that… a return of the pressure ridge over the western seaboard next year. And he’s calling for hurricanes occurring in close to the US on the East coast.

    • Gail Combs says:

That is my main fear. The chances of descending into an ice age are real but unknown. CAGW has a chance of 0.00000000….%

Unfortunately switches in the climate as large as 16°C are not unknown.

Richard B. Alley of the U.Penn. chaired the National Research Council on Abrupt Climate Change. From the opening paragraph in the executive summary:

Recent scientific evidence shows that major and widespread climate changes have occurred with startling speed. For example, roughly half the north Atlantic warming since the last ice age was achieved in only a decade, and it was accompanied by significant climatic changes across most of the globe. Similar events, including local warmings as large as 16°C, occurred repeatedly during the slide into and climb out of the last ice age….

“Abrupt Climate Change – Inevitable Surprises”, Committee on Abrupt Climate Change, National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences, 2002, ISBN: 0-309-51284-0, 244 pages, Richard B. Alley, chair : http://www.nap.edu/openbook.php?isbn=0309074347

The switch from the Wisconsin Ice Age to the Holocene happened in THREE YEARS according to Alley.
In his book, The Two-Mile Time Machine: Ice Cores, Abrupt Climate Change, and Our Future Richard Alley, one of the world’s leading climate researchers, tells the fascinating history of global climate changes as revealed by reading the annual rings of ice from cores drilled in Greenland. In the 1990s he and his colleagues made headlines with the discovery that the last ice age came to an abrupt end over a period of only three years….

  3. EW3 says:

Early April ice cover is 700% of average

  4. The Iconoclast says:

It’s trickier to adjust downward the amount of ice coverage but there’s always a way once the integrity is out the window.

  5. Fred from Canuckistan says:

How can the Denier Morons not be able to make the connection between 700% above normal ice and Global Warming? A blind Climate Scientist at Penn State could figure out the connection.

    • Vince Gianatti says:

http://www.longrangeweather.com/ The graph in this link will show you the influence of volcanic activity. Still believe man made CO2 is not affecting climate except making trees grow quicker and yhus giving us a good supply of O2!
They did predict extreme events but that goes on regardless of CO2 input.

  6. tom0mason says:

The UN Malthusians are trying to get control of fossil fuels with the connivance of governments to ensure population decrease when the big freeze arrives – the IPCC report is just part of this process, and a means to this end.

  7. ed k says:

Screws up the mean for a few years…..

  8. Andy Oz says:

Climatologists have been taking lessons from the CIA in how to tell lie after lie.
The CIA has now been busted. Climate catastrophists are also being found out.
Alarmists say there is no arctic ice and the Great Lakes hit a record ice.
Nature laughs at the alarmists morons. I love the irony.

  9. KevinK says:

Here on the Southern Shore of Lake Ontario (near Rochester NY) the last remaining lake ice is breaking up today. There was about 50 feet of hard ice stuck to the rocks along the shore. A little bit of wind/wave action and it broke into 1/2 foot thick ~4 foot square pieces overnight. I expect we will shortly be seeing the last of the lake ice at this location until next year’s “climate change” arrives, about Mid December most years.

    Cheers, Kevin.

  10. Morgan says:

    Kevin,

    Lake Ontario doesn’t count.

The problem is these people might suffer embarrassment and even refutation.

They say: “So what? We’re winning.”

  12. Send Al to the Pole says:

So, this is almost sure to set a record for latest date to melt out I would think…. mid April is the current record?

  13. theyouk says:

So…anyone know what’s happening w the Barnes Ice Cap (or other ice on Baffin Island)? The ‘starting point’ for the last ice age was there–thus any commentary on a new ice age should reference conditions there. I can’t find any near-real time data; suggestions?
