Science Is A Thing Of The Past In Climate Research

Climate scientists are blaming the cold weather on Arctic ice loss.

Bombshell: Study Ties Epic California Drought, ‘Frigid East’ To Manmade Climate Change

BY JOE ROMM ON APRIL 15, 2014 AT 4:52 PM

Natural variability alone cannot explain the extreme weather pattern that has driven both the record-setting California drought and the cooler weather seen in the Midwest and East this winter, a major new study finds.

We’ve reported before that climate scientists had predicted a decade ago that warming-driven Arctic ice loss would lead to worsening drought in California. In particular, they predicted it would lead to a “blocking pattern” that would shift the jet stream (and the rain it could bring) away from the state — in this case a “Ridiculously Resilient Ridge” of high pressure.

A new study in Geophysical Research Letters (subs. req’d) takes the warming link to the California drought to the next level of understanding. It concludes, “there is a traceable anthropogenic warming footprint in the enormous intensity of the anomalous ridge during winter 2013-14, the associated drought and its intensity.”

Other than the facts that Arctic ice extent is almost exactly at the 30 year median, and that the same weather pattern has happened lots of times before – I see no problem with this junk science.

In 1977, a nearly identical pattern set up with warmth in Alaska, drought in California, and cold in Florida. Arctic sea ice was near a peak at the time.

Thank you Steven, for your humor in describing the efforts of propaganda artists to make reality fit their model of reality.

    • omanuel says:

When Climategate emails surfaced in Nov 2009 nobody thought this might lead us back to a decision to deceive the public about nuclear energy sixty-four years earlier, in Oct 1945 !

Is there another viable reason why consensus scientists refuse to step forward and openly address nine pages of precise experimental data (pp. 19-27) that FALSIFY post-1945 consensus models of stars and heavy atoms?

Here’s a summary of the standoff between deception and reality:

Joe Romm is a denier of past climate change.

  3. mikegeo says:

I looked up Romm’s Wikipedia entry. For a guy who hasn’t done much he must be paying the wiki editors to hype his profile. About the only thing they left out was the name of his dog and of the girl who ditched him in high school. Boring as hell.

  4. Gamecock says:

“As this figure shows, the amplitude of the dipole driving the extreme nature of the California drought is much higher than can be explained purely by natural causes, and greenhouse gases are needed to explain the difference.”

Argumentum ad Ignorantiam. A Philosophy 101 student can debunk this.

    • Jason Calley says:

“Based on an analysis of human military weapons (for example, chemical lasers), it is not unreasonable to posit that alien civilizations would possess weapons that raise thermal energy as a means of offensive use. As this figure shows, the amplitude of the dipole driving the extreme nature of the California drought is much higher than can be explained purely by natural causes, and alien weapons are needed to explain the difference.”

  5. Dave N says:

As per a previous post, the ice extent hasn’t changed over 7 years. Is the missing ice from 7 years ago still causing colder weather? Ice is a pretty impressive substance.

  6. geran says:

The more these “scientists” (I didn’t want to use “clowns”) put out in writing, the more evidence we have of their mistaken notions (I didn’t want to use “stupidity”).

If only they will keep it up….

  7. Andy DC says:

These people are desperate screaming idiots. It’s a weather pattern, stupid!

    • Gail Combs says:

Andy, they are desperate and liars but not idiots. They are as aware of the cyclical nature of weather patterns as we are. The 88 year (70-100 years) Gleissberg cycle was known before Maurice Strong chaired the UN’s First Earth Summit in 1972.

Wolfgang Gleißberg (1953). Die Häufigkeit der Sonnenflecken (in German). Berlin: Ahademie Verlag.

They can also count. That is why they wanted CAGW to be a done deal by the Nopenhagen 2009 Summit. They are as aware as we are that the weather is going to start cooling and soon and this whole mess is going to blow up in their faces. If it was not for the fact that they have ‘captured’ and ‘adjusted’ all the land based temperature measurement the cooling would already be showing.

This is why they are becoming increasingly desperate. They have a half dozen years or a little more before the minimum between cycle 24 /25 sets in with a vengeance and the scientists will no longer be able to ignore the suns influence on climate.

I have sleet pounding my windows. One more degree and it is all snow.. in mid April

I have never seen winter this late…

    • stewart pid says:

And snowing like crazy in Calgary Alberta … the winter that never ends but of course the warming is causing all the cold and snow!! I knew the alarmists were getting stupid desperate when they said the record cold winter was the result of the warming … how thick do they think the average person is?

    • James the Elder says:

8:30 AM==68F, 8:30 PM==38F, 11:15 PM and the physics totally changed. The local NOAA station is reporting 39F as the ice forms on my deck. AGW causes ice.

    • Gail Combs says:

I have never seen freeze warnings in North Carolina in mid April either…. There goes the strawberry crop. As flowers open, strawberries can only tolerate drops in temperature down to 30ºF so the local crop is going to be dependent on the micro climate and whether the plants are blooming.

    • Gail Combs says:

I bet there are going to be a lot of VERY upset gardeners here in N.C. Tomato, eggplant, pepper and other plants have been selling like hot cakes for the last week or so since the second week of April is the recommended planting time for this area.

  10. Kalashnikat says:

LIke the flooding in England, caused by enviro ministry takeover (as in sabotage) of the drainage canals and pump stations that have been working there for a couple hundred years, the California Central Valley is in extremis not because of lack of rain (which happens from time to time) but because waters used in the past for irrigation have now been diverted to supposedly save the Delta Smelt….well, it “smelt” pretty bad when I was a child in California, and it stinks even worse now…
Create a fake crisis, drive folks off of land that’s been used productively for a couple hundred years, and blame it on Glowbull Wormenizing.

    BS.

No option left but to suck CO2 out of air, says IPCC

“”widespread” use of bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) will probably be needed to stop the world warming by 2 °C, the politically agreed danger threshold.”

Note “politically agreed threshold”, not “scientifically agreed threshold”

With Apologies to a true Great person Norman Schwarzkopf:

As far as Joe Romm being a great climate strategist:
    He is neither a strategist,
nor is he schooled in the operational art,
    nor is he a tactician,
nor is he a Fellow at American Progress,
nor is he a scientist. Other than that, he’s an ordinary man.

  13. Brian G Valentine says:

It is obvious to me that “climate catastrophism” is a psycho-sexual deviancy that attempts to cover some underlying sickening perversion

  14. gator69 says:

“Natural variability alone cannot explain the extreme weather pattern…”

Yes, it can. Romm sounds like one of those ghost hunters that gets all excited about dust particles, and starts frothing at the mouth about ‘orbs’. Just goes to show how little Romm really knows about climate.

    • Gail Combs says:

Romm knows ZERO about geology. I doubt he has ever heard of ice ages or Dansgaard–Oeschger events or even Bond events.

      FROM WIKI:

… the youngest of three sons of Al Romm, managing editor of the Times Herald-Record newspaper…

..earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982 and a Ph.D. in 1987, both in physics… he provided science and security policy advice on the staff of Representative Charles E. Bennett (D).

…From 1988 to 1990, Romm worked as Special Assistant for International Security at the Rockefeller Foundation….

…For the Global Environment and Technology Foundation, he performed the first environmental analysis…

Not exactly a research scientist without an agenda is he?

Now I have to go take a shower… YUCK!

      • Jason Calley says:

“…From 1988 to 1990, Romm worked as Special Assistant for International Security at the Rockefeller Foundation….”

        No surprise there.

    • Normal statistical distribution alone cannot explain Joe Romm’s stupidity, therefore it is safe to conclude that he was dropped on his head as a baby.
