Justice In Albuquerque

In 1994, the Albuquerque Police killed a man about twenty yards away from me and my family. They fired in our direction into a car on the other side of I-25.

The Albuquerque police are famous for killing people. Finally, something is being done about it.

I always keep my hands on the steering wheel if pulled over.

    I remember that.
Did you march and burn buildings?

I worked about 8 years in and around Albuquerque in the early 2000s on groundwater-Rio Grande studies.

Parts of town are just freaky-wierd – like the desolate arroyos on the west edge of La Ceja mesa where locals wantonly dump dead appliances and cars down cliffs – and then perforate them with unimaginable amounts of ammunition.

I guess they don’t want the appliances’ relatives coming back for revenge

Or maybe they’re just sending a message to the rogue “denier” appliances that they had better toe the “consensus” party line

Cops and laws in Albuquerque are just hard-ass/bad-ass

I think the cops have a good chance of winning this one. Since this is about the only time a cop has been on trial in Albuquerque for shooting, I suggest respectfully that the judge might have picked a more clear cut test case.

Boyd clearly had a screw loose, he thought he worked for Department of Defense, he sometimes thought he was God, he had a history of erratic behaviour and flying into a rage. He was waving a pocket knife (not really all that dangerous but could give someone a nasty cut).

That’s not a good reason to shoot him, especially shooting in the back like they did, but it does give the defense attorneys a whole lot of ways to put doubt in the minds of the jury.

Maybe he was thinking of having an AK47.

If they can only prove that it could be enough to give the cop a free ticket.

Maybe they can photoshop this in the pictures.

The most disturbing aspect watching the video of this incident is why they used non-lethal (bean bag gun) means to negate the threat after using deadly force (pumping the unfortunate soul full of lead). I thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

Albuquerque may then have much in common with Las Vegas, where the cops shoot first and don’t ask questions later. Even Jack Dunphy, the LA cop who writes under that pseudonym about all things cop in LA, is incredulous. But the AP link does no favors to the pursuit of justice. It’s written by a frothing lefty, situation normal at AP.
