Greenland, one of the largest ice sheets in the world, is melting. In fact, it is melting ahead of schedule as the world warms.

Why do you think the Vikings left Greenland during the onset of
the little ice age?.
There are hundreds of references, technical and anecdotal, of the medieval
warm period a thousand years ago. The only verifiable time when England
produced more wine than France.
After that came the decline into the little ice age , a time of much hardship, but some
pleasantries like skating on the River in England, a rarity.
The Vikings also had to contend with the Inuit coming down, they themselves having difficulties.
In the last decades, the remains of the Viking construct has been and is getting uncovered.
In general, there has been a slow steady melting of ice sheets in varying degrees since the heart of the LIA

They are still finding Viking buildings and artefacts under places that do actually melt. That’s because we are in a slight warming period out of the coldest period in the whole of the last 10,000 years. If anything, Arctic and Greenland ice levels are anomalously HIGH compared to the rest of the Holocene.. and yet we, and the world, are still here.

OH no, their pat answer to the Greenland Viking thing is that it was only a local warming, and the rest of the world was still cold. They have not explained any mechanism yet, that could make Greenland warm every year for 300 years in a row, that wasn’t global.

According to “North Greenland Eemian Ice Drilling (NEEM) ice core” data, they record been positive accumulation for every time period back to 108,140 years ago.
So no, the ice cap is not melting, just the sides and they reappear each winter.

Of course there’s positive accumulation above the equilibrium line altitude – it does mean that the ice sheet is not losing mass.
At the rate it is losing mass, it might be a problem in another 10,000 years, assuming we don’t have another Ice Age before then.

The tiny amount of melting is uncovering old settlements, just as melt glaciers have often uncovered tree stumps and other human artefacts.

OK, someone help me with this. The DMI graph shows the Greenland ice sheet mass as being on a par with the mean since 1993, but their web site says on average it’s been losing 200 gt’s, year on year for the last 10 years? So, . Is, it shrinking or isn’t it? ?
Let’s face it, if all that snow and rain that falls on Greenland every year didn’t melt, some parts of SE Greenland would be getting taller at something like 500 feet per century.
