December 2006 – Republicans control Congress and the White House – unemployment is 4.4%
January 2007, Democrats take over the Congress and promise Change.
January 2009, Democrats take over the White House and promise Hope and Change.
March 2009, unemployment hits 10%.
It’s real simple when you put things in the proper historical sequence.
Same thing with ice core records. Temperature rises, THEN CO2 rises. Temperature declines, THAN CO2 declines.
Daylight always follows dawn, night always follows sunset.
But you have to live through the night. And we have had 7+ years of night.
Payroll employment when Pelosi became speaker – 137,448,000
Payroll employment by the time of the November 2010 election – 130,674,000 Loss of nearly 6.8 million
Payroll employment when Boehner became speaker – 130,983,000
Payroll employment right now – 137,928,000 Gain of 6.9 million
ALL the loses were on Pelosi’s watch, and things are barely back to where they were in spite of millions of more people of working age added since then.
Unfortunately the ‘Replacement Jobs’ are low paying sales clerk, walmart greeters and Burger flipping jobs.
Shadow stat gives unemployement/underemployment figures at 24% and still growing. Even the progressive I was arguing with who writes for FORBES, finally admitted that the 55 years and up people were forced into retirement because there WERE NO HIGH PAYING JOBS AVAILABLE.
Forced into retirement is not included as ‘Unemployed’ I know I am one. Companies get the final say as to whether or not you can collect unemployment. You can not collect if fired. So you get the choice of a ‘Severance Package’ and signing their agreement or you get fired and STILL can not collect.
Majority of New Jobs Pay Low Wages, Study Finds
Yeah. I remember all the screeching about average hourly earnings and wage stagnation back when unemployment was under 5%, and incomes were actually rising. Now, those same people are back to just counting jobs and ignoring they quality of those jobs or lack thereof.
That is because it was a DEMOCRAT, Clinton who pushed Congress into signing WTO and NAFTA and then got China into the WTO followed by giving China our technology including military technology.
(As usual I have the links for any who want them)
Like our UK Conservative Government who claims that employment is going up, when most of those jobs are in ‘zero hours’ contracts, where you never know how many hours you are going to work (and get paid for) each week.
You’ve gotta include the 2008 GFC though – the devastation to everyone’s financial position had been brewing for more than a decade surely ?
Just like small changes in the Sun take a long time to manifest on Earth – or changes in global cloud cover – or the other more likely scenarios than a tiny increase in an essential trace gas.
Things don’t happen in a vacuum. The runs on banks that Chuck Shummer started off by questioning the solvency of Indy Mac Bank were no accident. There is no bank that can withstand a run by depositors.
Nancy Pelosi pushed her minimum wage increase through. Three 75 cent increases every July from 2007 to 2009. It killed off many small businesses. Lots in rural areas and other low cost areas.
Does it make sense to have a 75 cent increase in the minimum wage in 2008 when the recession had already started and the number of jobs was 944,000 below the peak, or another 75 cent increase in 2009 after 7.7 million jobs had already been lost from the peak? Absolutely not, but there they were.
And with Obamacare raising the cost of labor, and higher taxes on successful companies, they now want to throw $3 more onto the minimum wage. As if that won’t affect the economy and jobs. If they passed it and the economy went into a recession, would the decline be due to the recession, or would it be due to the legislation?
No hope, and no change.
A$ is higher than our aus one but not by much

“A$” is ambiguous as it could be Australian or American. USD is best. And yea, I just made a donation to something in Australia, that they would only take in Oz dollars. So my credit card was charged $94.57 for the donation. I was too lazy to look up the exchange and then convert up (I hate odd amounts, and no you cannot have my odd cents! 😉 )
