We need an apartheid-style boycott to save the planet We must stop climate change. And we can, if we use the tactics that worked in South Africa against the worst carbon emitters
This week in Berlin, scientists and public representatives have been weighing up radical options for curbing emissions contained in the third report of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The bottom line is that we have 15 years to take the necessary steps. The horse may not have bolted, but it’s well on its way through the stable door.

This is quite a relief, because James Hansen had previously given us only until 2012.
President Obama ‘has four years to save Earth’ | Environment | The Observer
Hansen’s 2012 number was in itself a major reprieve from the UN’s original deadline of 2000
And Paul Ehrlich said we would all be dead by 1980
“I’m scared,” the lean, intense scientist (Paul Ehrlich) told an interviewer. “I have a teenage daughter whom I love very much. I know a lot of young people, and their world is being destroyed – my world is being destroyed. I’m 37, and I’d like to live to be 67 in a reasonably pleasant world, not die in some kind of holocaust in the next decade.”
We should feel very blessed that the bishop has granted us an extra 50 years beyond Ehrlich’s original deadline.
I thought Tutu was all busy and such going after Israel for whatever. Amazing he has time to save the world from trace CO2. No accounting for the ability of Progressives to be mindless, clueless, brainless morons.
Then again, there is Al Sharpton.
I’m not going to heat my home or drive my car or fly anywhere. That will show them. Can’t wait for this boycott.
Possibly one of the silliest articles ever to be published on CAGW in the NZ Herald today. Is it any wonder that most people realise this is a load of crap.
Basically, the earths atmosphere will turn into something resembling Jupiter’s by the end of the century. Never ending cyclones, floods, droughts, heatwaves, tornadoes etc.
“Victoria University Associate Professor of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences James Renwick said the report painted a very clear picture of what the future could hold for humanity if it failed to get on top of greenhouse gas emissions.
He said one of the biggest issues that New Zealand faced was sea level rise and its associated hazards.
“Every 10cm of rise triples the risk of a given inundation event, and we are expecting something like a metre of rise this century. That would make today’s 1-in-100 year event a weekly occurrence by 2100.”

Victoria University staff are channelling Marshall Applewhite, who already did the world a favour.
Interesting allusion to Jupiter, but it is the intellectual climate that has become like that giant, roiling, and ever-divided atmosphere… Hmmm…perhaps we could model the stupidity, delusion, and tyrannical impulses with fluid dynamics (including turbulence)…a new frontier for a post-normal Navier-Stokes theory.
Does anyone really know what carbon is? Does anyone really care about carbon? If so, I can’t imagine why. We’ve all got time enough to cry.
“No, not violence, Watson! Violins! That’s the key!”
UN IPCC alarmists want the UK to spend £58 billion each year to stop deadly globull worming. There is no part of that idea that is sane. They have completely lost their marbles. “Make the lie so big, people will believe it” – Hitler (paraphrased)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2602120/Britain-increase-spending-green-energy-ten-times-15-years-help-reduce-global-warming-says-UN.html
And all the navies, sailors, fishermen, and seashore dwellers the world over have noticed the rapid sea rise?
Thank you, Steven, for your humorous review of the world’s insanity.
There is encouraging news. Yu and Luo [1] confirmed the 1997 finding [2] by Svensmark and Friis-Christensen: “Cosmic rays” induce condensation of atmospheric water vapor into clouds that alter Earth’s climate.
Since the “cosmic ray” flux on Earth varies inversely with solar activity:
_ a.) The “cosmic ray” flux on Earth is higher during the solar minimum
_ b.) The “cosmic ray” flux on Earth is lower during the solar maximum
Scientists may discover that some cosmic rays come from the Sun’s core:

Interesting!
Yes, indeed! Glorious leaders and saviors of the world pretended control of Earth while blocking knowledge of a pulsar, the creator and sustainer of every atom, life and world in the solar system, that is only one astronomical unit (1 AU) away.
don’t feed the troll.
Prozacinator,
Why? trolls are people too, this “don’t feed the Troll” bullshit needs to stop, picking on people is repulsive.
Their inability to recognise how stupid they look is beyond comical.
Desmond Tutu is interested in the money expected from the guilty developed world. He knows as much as a stump regarding Earth’s climate. At least he can be honest about that. Hansen and Ehrlich haven’t been in touch with reality for a long time. Neither has been right about anything for years, maybe forever. They just (continue to) make stuff up.
I wonder what Miss Ehrlich (teenager in 1971) thinks of her doom and gloom daddy who did not die some years ago as he expected? He is now about 80 and said: “I’d like to live to be 67 in a reasonably pleasant world, . . .”
Brings tears to my eyes!
People carrying grudges for not being recognized as important (and with no ability to gain recognition by doing anything meaningful) will go to extremes to gain affirmation from someone – no matter how meaningless or negative such recognition might be (witness the show-off delinquent junior high schooler).
The only thing that surprises me to this point is, there are so many of them, and all coming from the Left
I’ll use that in future if I may, delinquent junior high schoolers excellent.
Donna Laframboise has been using it.
The Delinquent Teenager Who Was Mistaken for the World’s Top Climate Expert
This is probably the best post ever! 43 years of continuous drumbeat of doomsday predictions.
The phenomenon has been around a lot longer than that, except it used to come from religious zealotry. Religions have been swapped, and that’s about the only difference.
Doomsday was indeed caused by your SUV.
I live in a post apocalyptic parallel universe where CO2 has no effect on Global Temperature or anything else for that matter. And we are troll free.

After 43 years of continuous scare mongering adrenal exhaustion has set in among the population. That is why in a recent MSNBC poll (12K responses) 82% said climate change would not impact them.
The bill for the Obummercare debacle is hitting the US population in the wallet about now.
As I recall the definition of a conservative is a liberal who got mugged. Obummercare is mugging a lot of starry eyed libs. In the UK fuel poverty is mugging a lot of libs.
From the point of view of Libs it is YOU, not them that has to pay the price because they have not ‘sinned’. When “Other peoples money’ starts coming out of their pockets they become very unhappy.
The very reason they did away with the color code warning system. If you are always at Yellow or orange, you just start ignoring it.
You are right! After 43 years of crying wolf, the wolf is still no closer to the door than he was in 1930 People have become numbed to the same old mindless scare tactics.
You have to love the deluded James Hansen. While Kevin Trenberth, Michael Mann and Thomas Stocker wisely “Lawyer Up”, Hansen leads with his chin:
http://www.lpi.usra.edu/planetary_atmospheres/presentations/Catling.pdf
Check out slide 35 showing 4.5 Kelvin per doubling and 16 Kelvin/halving. Absurd? Way beyond that but it has a crazy kind of logic. On one hand Hansen affirms the Arrhenius hypothesis of 4.5 K/doubling of [CO2] and on the other hand he affirms exactly the right “Sensitivity Constant” to explain the last seven glaciations in terms of [CO2].

His mentor, Carl “The Charlatan” Sagan was obviously hopped up on pain pills and tranquilizers, Jimmy must have picked up the habit
Activism is ‘cute’ in a terribly ernst fifteen or sixteen year old girl, it is …. distasteful in a 73 year old codger.
“If you are young and not liberal, then you have no heart; but if you are old and not conservative, then you have no brain,” – Disraeli? or Churchill?
Looks like Hansen has no brain.
He has nothing but a fawning collection of maybe sixty or seventy idiotic sycophants, Good God am I glad I have nothing of the sort
Reblogged this on Rnm101's Blog and commented:
What an utter cockwomble.
cockwomble? I like that one!
Hmm…I would prefer “cockwobble”…but that would be too graphic for tender young ears.
I’ve peer reviewed the word “cockwomble” and approve its use as either a noun, verb, adjective and adverb. Application for inclusion in Oxford dictionary 2015 submitted.
Does that make Desmond Tutu less insane than Hansen?
Well, who was the last one to say something insane?
Phil asks: “Does that make Desmond Tutu less insane than Hansen?”
In Tutu’s view he represents poor souls in failed countries. He wants other people’s money to relieve his despair over his inability to affect these failures. Much of the money will not help those in need. It will end up in luxury goods and bank accounts of the dear leaders and friends and family members. He understands this part but the argument is that maybe half the money will help those in need, and half of 60 billion is still a lot of money.
He is sane but deluded by the “experts” mentioned in the post.
We have been getting the same tired line about “Helping” those in need in third world countries for close to a century. Al that has happened is the tryany gets worse.

Interesting thesis. I seem to recall a similar minister who was also concerned about all the poor souls. He raised the dead and healed the sick – but he never asked or demanded money from anyone else.
I thought Desmond was a follower of that earlier minister.
Alas, poor Desmond! I knew him once. A fellow of infinite fortitude; Now just a useless tool.
desmond … a bigot and hate monger of the highest order. another despot who wants to control us via lies and obfuscation.
AGW certainly is a powerful elixir. Who in their wildest imaginings could have envisaged Desmond Tutu as an advocate for apartheid? We really do live in interesting times.
