Al Kellie headed up NCAR’s supercomputing efforts, and was a big driver in pushing high performance computing over the past few decades. I used to do occasional software contracts for his group.
Al passed away last week rather suddenly, and I attended his memorial this afternoon at NCAR. He was known for being a very good person with many interests, a great family, and loved to travel.
His death was not widely publicized and he was still being quoted by journalists several days after he passed.
Al will be missed by many in the community.
