  1. Andy WeissDC says:

They finally decided that the lowest pressure in the storm was 26.35″ or 892 millibars. Also extremely small and compact.

    • Latitude says:

Andy, that was like hurricane Andrew.
They have to spin down tight to get that pressure.

      • Andy WeissDC says:

Katrina had a very low pressure (3rd lowest recorded at landfall) but was huge. The 3 landfalling catgory 5’s (Camille, Andrew and 1935) were quite small.

The big ones usually create more storm surge, the smaller ones, more severe but concentrated wind damage.

  2. PhilJourdan says:

I actually saw a documentary on this hurricane – kind of. They were documenting the Florida Keys highway, and of course a big topic was the 35 hurricane. Given the number of people down there at the time, the loss of life was catastrophic.

  3. Ivan says:

    ..and this:
    STORM SWEPT BRITAIN
WORST TEMPEST IN MEMORY. LOSS OF LIFE BY LAND AND SEA
    FULL DAMAGE NOT KNOWN.”

  4. Ivan says:

    ..and possibly this:
    1,800 KILLED IN HURRICANE
Cuba Storm Worst In Nation’s History. HAVANA, November 10.
It is estimated that 1,800 were killed and hundreds injured in the hurricane which swept eastern and central Cuba yesterday. The storm was one of the greatest in Cuba’s history.”
