What are the odds? If things were normal, this would be a 0.5^439 event. So we can be sure that this hasn’t happened before. If we filled 10^23 universes wall to wall with protons, this is more unlikely than one in that number. 🙂

Of course this has happened before. There was an ice age 12000 years ago. The LIA would have had a greater anomaly. There is no such thing as ”normal” with climate/weather, change is ongoing.
‘Above the 1979-2008 observed average’ would be more correct. And the use of ‘normal’ when describing weather or climate is a pet peeve of mine, it plays into the alarmist hand by using their preferred wording.
