I want an expensive little car which can’t carry very much has a range of 40 miles takes many hours to refill is useless in an emergency and can leave me stranded for many hours.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

So that you can lower the temperature of the earth 10^-99999999 degrees.
Or is it. So you can increase your carbon footprint. đ
More electric vehicles on the road= more electricity needed to be generated.
Biofuel driven vehicles= the same or upto 4x more CO2 emissions.
More Solar and wind generated power = More CO2 emissions as the manufacturing process of Solar and Windpower can use more emissions than what is reduced.
I want to drive an electric car, so that I can join with the left wing hypocrites who day and night spout on about “saving the planet”……….. and sea level rise but buy beach front condos and fly thousands of air miles each year to conferences whose ‘carbon footprint’ amounts to the budget of a small nation’s GDP.
Join the hypocrites, liars, charlatans and scamsters, join the political control freaks and the “one world government” UN lunatics, join the eco warriors, tree huggers and class agitprop of Socialism and………………………….drive a leaf!
Or, live in the real world and be a petrol head – 4×4 – you know it makes real sense.
“…useless in an emergency…”
I hear you can short the battery to start a fire to keep warm if you are cold…
…however that is a one time and last use… then it is useless.
Here you go:

Or maybe this.
This video confirms one of my long-held suspicions.
Note at 0:44-0:50 she parks in a disabled parking spot – proving beyond all doubt that green stupidity is clearly recognised as a disability.

She should get a bike. It also transports one person and is very efficient.
I don’t have a mental block about electric vehicles and at equivalent 195mpg this little buggy has merit. From the fun point of view I’d rather ride a motorbike but that means rainproof clothing and for a stylish woman that’s going to be a problem. Say that by November 2016 gasoline hits $8/gallon, which seems quite probable. Would you stand on your pride or would you switch to electric?
You must have a lot of money to waste on a turkey because you can’t go far or do much with them.
sunsettommy I went to the Myers Motors page and for this tiny little vee-high-kul they want $27,500 and that’s nett of the $2,500 federal subsidy. Now say that for $10,000 you can get a pre-owned BMW 3-series with all the extras. You have to drive a HECK of a lot of miles to make up the $17,500 price difference. (And that’s why I always drive pre-owned cars.)
This isn’t a matter of pride. These vehicles remain little more than glorified golf carts. Every guy loves electronic gizzmos, so I would love to have an electric….but there is little I could do with it…. kind of like the extra 12 sets of speakers I can’t seem to quit buying.
I had to switch employers, and now commute 60mi each way every day. I bought a Hyundai Elantra, and easily exceed 40 mpg highway. I make a good living, and could easily drive an SUV, or a luxury sedan. I just like the fact that my transportation doesn’t cost much, and it’s new and reliable. And I can seat 4, and it’s quite comfortable.
If I get another vehicle, I’ll get an H2 with monster tires so I can spin brodies and run over tents at green festivals. đ
Traitor in Chief, here’s the interesting thing about Myers Motors. The car in the video is a prototype and the driver is probably a model not a real gen-u-whine owner. When they have pre-paid orders for 100 vehicles, and at least 1 million in the bank, they will commence manufacture. On TV there are lots of shows about venture capitalists, which make me an instant expert, and it seems to me that a good idea should easily be able to raise 1 million dollars. Something not quite right is going on here. I strongly suspect that the real manufacturer is in China; their price is based on a run of 100 units minimum and they want cash up front. There’s good Chinese as well as bad Chinese (everything I’m wearing right now right down to the reading glasses is probably Chinese) but there could very well be quality issues.
It’s not a question of pride – it’s the fact that I can’t shake this image of little bits of green plastic wrapped around the rear axles of an 18-wheeler.
In that case the Tesla Model S is not suitable for you:
* Carries 5 adults + 2 children
* 63.4 cubic feet of storage
* 265 miles range
* 30 minutes for a 50% charge
http://www.teslamotors.com/models
And what is the cost? Can anyone making less than 100,000 a year afford to make the payments for one?
Nice. $80,000 and 31 miles range for an hour of charging at an AC outlet.
Why would anyone buy a piece of shit like that?
To be sanctimonious. Look at me, I care about the earth and you’re terrible because you don’t.
For their ego, nothing more.
I don’t know. It does however address your points “little”, “canât carry very much”, “range of 40 miles”, and “many hours to refill”. 31 Miles per hour charging is only useful at home, so that when you wake up in the morning it will always be “full”.
They are selling faster than they can make them, so apparently people are willing to live with the limitations.
Toys for rich liberals. Useless for everyone else.
And how far will it go with the heater and defroster going full tilt? Air conditioning? Hilly terrain? Four wheel drive?
It’s a coal powered toy.
Resale price in 5 years?
‘Bjorn Lomborg: Green Cars Have a Dirty Little Secret’
For proponents such as the actor and activist Leonardo DiCaprio, the main argument is that their electric carsâwhether it’s a $100,000 Fisker Karma (Mr. DiCaprio’s ride) or a $28,000 Nissan Leafâdon’t contribute to global warming. And, sure, electric cars don’t emit carbon-dioxide on the road. But the energy used for their manufacture and continual battery charges certainly doesâfar more than most people realize.
A 2012 comprehensive life-cycle analysis in Journal of Industrial Ecology shows that almost half the lifetime carbon-dioxide emissions from an electric car come from the energy used to produce the car, especially the battery. The mining of lithium, for instance, is a less than green activity. By contrast, the manufacture of a gas-powered car accounts for 17% of its lifetime carbon-dioxide emissions. When an electric car rolls off the production line, it has already been responsible for 30,000 pounds of carbon-dioxide emission. The amount for making a conventional car: 14,000 pounds.
So unless the electric car is driven a lot, it will never get ahead environmentally. And that turns out to be a challenge. Consider the Nissan Leaf. It has only a 73-mile range per charge. Drivers attempting long road trips, as in one BBC test drive, have reported that recharging takes so long that the average speed is close to six miles per hourâa bit faster than your average jogger.
To make matters worse, the batteries in electric cars fade with time, just as they do in a cellphone. Nissan estimates that after five years, the less effective batteries in a typical Leaf bring the range down to 55 miles. As the MIT Technology Review cautioned last year: “Don’t Drive Your Nissan Leaf Too Much.”
If a typical electric car is driven 50,000 miles over its lifetime, the huge initial emissions from its manufacture means the car will actually have put more carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere than a similar-size gasoline-powered car driven the same number of miles. Similarly, if the energy used to recharge the electric car comes mostly from coal-fired power plants, it will be responsible for the emission of almost 15 ounces of carbon-dioxide for every one of the 50,000 miles it is drivenâthree ounces more than a similar gas-powered car.

Electric Car Range in Cold Weather
http://www.motherearthnews.com/ask-our-experts/electric-car-range-in-cold-weather-zb0z1204zmat.aspx
I went to a city last weekend that is about 110 miles one way taking about 1 1/2 hours to get there. While using the Electric car would take me TWO days to get there this making the trip worthless from the start because I have to be at work monday morning.
Off-Topic, or is it?
I think we could have some fun with this idea …
Employees of the local Democratic Headquarters or the Union Hall or [insert target here] has been spewing Carbon Dioxide into the air continuously since they opened 35 years ago …
Note: The two DJ’s back at work …
The real story is how stupid some people are, talking about felonies and stuff. Especially the idiot Diane Holm, public information officer for the Florida Department of Health …
Dumbass beyotch. No wonder the AGW cult has so many members.

Sixteen $100K Fisker cars blow themselves up during Sandy
What does a $1.6 million explosion sound like? We’ll have to ask Fisker Automotive. Sixteen of the luxury carmaker’s $100,000 Karma hybrid sports sedans caught fire, blew up and then burned to a crisp after being submerged during Hurricane Sandy. The pricey fleet was parked in Port Newark, N.J., when waves from the storm surge crashed over the port and destroyed the Justin Bieber-approved vehicles. “We can report that there were no injuries and none of the cars were being charged at the time,” Fisker said in a statement. “We intend to find the cause as quickly as possible.” We’re guessing bad Karma. ZING!

Unless someone invest a super-capacitor that hold as much energy as a tank full of gasoline, electric cars will never be practical. In fact, Raytheon in the development of a new type of submersible for the Navy, abandoned using batteries. They developed a mono-propellent fuel and are now looking for engines to utliize it.
you want an electric car, because there is not enough fuel in the ground for everyone on the planet. The math is quite simple. The only way that gasoline engine is cheaper is if you can permanently keep ~80% of present day population from driving, ever. As one famous man once said, you can accomplish much with a bayonet, but you can not sit on it.So, we need alternatives to the gasoline engine. As battery technology improves, something along the lines of Chevy Volt will become viable. To summarize, you want an electric car because there are more ways of producing electricity than there are ways of producing liquid fuels. Carbon dioxide has nothing to do with it.
There is enough fossil fuel to last for centuries.
do the math. US has 5% of population, uses 25% of oil production. Straight extrapolation tells you that the production of oil would have to quintuple to extend this rate of use to the entire population. To be sure, US is gluttonous. Even after efficiencies, the production would have to double on a sustainable basis. You think it can?
US consumers lifted China and India out of starvation. Greenies liked it better when tens of millions were starving to death.
oh, ho hum. Green Twits: Zero. Rational Thinking Humans: 5274 (or something)
Last year, there were 2 key stories from the USGS and The Dept of Energy. One was Sec Chu stating that The Dept of Energy, in conjunction with (I think it was Chevron) had discovered 1000 years worth of Natural Gas in the Arctic. I’ll see if I can find it.
The other story, also from Federal sources (while run by the psycho green administration we have today) explained that the Green River formation is now understood to make the US the world’s largest owner (by far) of oil reserves in the world. Estimates ranging from 1.5 to 3.0 Trillion bbl. (And before the wailing and gnashing of teeth begins… at least half was considered recoverable….and BTW, the evil Haliburton has developed a fracking fluid you can drink by the glass)

do the math. US has 5% of population, uses 25% of oil production.
More importantly, it has ~25% of the worlds GDP.
In fact, under Dear Leader, gasoline sales in the US have been shrinking dramatically:

The Electric car is still a worthless car for the public plus it has a large toxic Battery in the car based on materials that were extracted from surface mines that are polluting the region around them.
Yup you must be an environmentalist to be this ignorant.
Here in South Africa we’ve been driving on gasoline-from-coal for over 50 years now, using the Fischer-Tropsch process. Cheaper than gasoline from crude oil too.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasol
Remember the scientists who suggested that we could genetically modify humans to become smaller so we could always go that route and then drive this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJfSS0ZXYdo
If we can be shrunk enough this could be a bus. đ
Yes, Sundance, but shrinking people would lead to bigger cars because of Small Dick Syndrome.
I’d walk 40 miles, or 100 miles, or whatever the range is before I would ride in an electric piece of crud
I have some pride
Why would anyone ride around and advertise to the World that they have very low self-esteem?
